The best choice would be to power it for about 2 or 3 hours several times throughout the day.
However, I was able to keep 3 houses running with no loss of foodstuffs by doing a 8 hour on and 16 hour off cycle for each.
Just be sure to leave the doors closed so you do not let the heat get inside.
Be certain you have the generator outside so no one gets carbon monoxide poisoning from the exhaust fumes.
Also, remember, leaving it outside could cause it to "disappear" into the hands of a thief !
God bless your efforts.

How long have you had this refrigerator and is this the first time this has happened? Your refrigerator has a control board and I believe the board is causing the refrigerator not to defrost every 8 hours. Let me know these questions and I will help you resolve this. Thanks, Sea Breeze

there is two bolts oin the very front of the unit behind the kickplate the oiu can turn clock wise until there is a slight tile toward the back of the unit so that the cams on the doors will have a little bit of gravity to helop them stay shut.

SOURCE: refrigerator will not maintain proper temperature

Check in the back of the fridge section; there is normally a control that is provided for 'balancing' the cold air between the two sections. That coolled air is distributed by a concealed fan that may not be running; you should be able to ear or feel the air movement when the unit is in a cooling cycle.

SOURCE: Refrigerator is somewhat cold as is the freezer

Your refrigerator has a defrost timer located near the floor and behind the kick plate. Remove the kick plate grill and turn the timer slowly clockwise until refrigerator compressor stops running. Leave it there for about 30 minutes or until refrigerator restarts. During this time the refrigerator should be in the defrost cycle. Open the freezer and you will possibly hear a crackling noise or the noise of water sizzling as it drips from the evaporator to the defrost heater. If your refrigerator does not restart after this time then turn the timer again slowly until the compressor restarts. If you do this then the timer will need replaced If no defrost takes place during this time then we need to move to the rear of the freezer and unplug the refrigerator and do some test on the defrost heater. Let me know how this worked out for you. The part number for your defrost timer is 10530703

The temp for the fridge is about right and -18 for the freezer is ok so check to see if the water filter is plugged, at 8 degrees Celsius is about 18 degrees fht. Which is freezing so the numbers don't add up. 26 degrees below zero on the freezer side is what you want if it that cold it could have frozen the water line.

Model EEV-163F Whirlpool Upright Freezer. Defrosted this week, already seeing ice buildup. Freezer is cold and appears to run fine, but frost buildup seems excessive this quickly. Frost throughout

This freezer is not frost free. Being an upright limiting the amount and frequency of opening the door will reduce the build up of ice. Ice is expected and depending on humidity and quality of seal around door affects the amount of ice.

Using a thin ribbon check the seal integrity around the door. Confirm nothing is prohibiting the full closure of the door.

Adjust door if necessary. Replace seal if defective. Freeze open unsealed items in a frost free freezer before locating frozen food in this unit.

These units are likely located in the garage where the humidity is high. If used only as needed planning transfer between this and the kitchen unit frost can be minimized.

Being a conventional freezer not frost free freezer burn is less likely and frozen food will not dry out as quickly. Confirm that the freezer maintains about 0 degree F.

This unit is likely more efficient and will maintain the food frozen longer in the event of power outage.

Hope this helps?

Kenmore elite upright freezer model 25326093100

It does sound like the thermostat is acting up. It could also be a defrost timer if it is a frost free model. The timer could be running slow and remaining in defrost longer than it is designed to. Thermostat can get erretic also and work fine sometimes nad then not work correctly another. When it is shut off after cycling off tap the thermostat. if it comes back on thgis could be your problem.

My Fridgidaire upright Gallery freezer is freezing my food but the appliance seems to be constantly running and the temperature control on the outside is reading 29 Celsius when it obviously isn't

Hi Susan Abboud - Modern freezers have increased storage capacity and keep more even temperature that may require the compressors to run longer but use less energy. Was the unit disconnected previously for any reason? If so, freezer requires a minimum of 4 hours to cold down completely. Confirm that the temperature control is not set too cold and that the door is not being open frequently. A dirty, cracked, worn or poorly fitted door gasket can allow warm air to enter the unit causing it to have to run longer to remove the warm air. Leaks in the door seal will cause freezer to run longer in order to maintain desired temperature. Cleaned the gasket, if it is too damage then it will need to be replace. You can check and see if the door seal is bad by, placing a dollar between the gasket and cabinet. Check to see if the door is being blocked by anything stopping it from closing properly. If nothing is stopping the door then replace gasket. Keep in mind that there should also be at least 4-6 in of air space on all sides of the unit. If freezer is built in or has items stored on top that cover the unit, the can cause long run times, high temperature in the freezer and premature failure to the unit. Do not block the toe grille on the lower front of the unit. Sufficient air circulation is essential for the properly operation of your freezer, about 3 inches around the unit.

Whirlpool Chest Freezer Not Cooling Properly After Brown Out

work should be performed by a qualified service technician. verify that there is proper voltage at the wall outlet using a voltage meter. if it is ok check for voltage to the compressor relay. if it is ok unplug the freezer and check for continuity at the start relay and overload. if it is open you have a relay or overload. if it is ok check for the ohms rating at the compressor. common to start/common to run, start to run should be the total of both. also start/run to ground if any of these are open you have a system problem.

Freezer runs constantly

not necessarily, is it maintaining temp? all food staying frozen? especially ice creams if stored in there. most newer freezers displace the heat generated while cooling the food through copper lines running through sides of unit, helps to cut down on air temp differences between the inside (0 degrees) and outside temp to prevent moisture and possible condensation causing premature rusting of unit
