My engine turns but the bike refuses to start there is no fire to the spark plugs

If you are not getting spark, get a voltage tester, text power from stator to coils. You can also use an ohmmeter to test if the on off switch or kill switch if applicable on this model is bad.

Starter running while the engine kill button is in the off position

check the wiring between your kill switch the starter button and the wiring harness, there may be chafing causing a grounding or cross connection to the starter button

I just bought my ZX-12R and I do not have a

most oils will work, you want about 10W30 weight. you will either have a dipstick on the filler cap, or most kawasakis have a sight glass on the engine case with level markers. you will probly need to remove the fairing pannels to do this job. the coolant should have a small reserve bottle with level markers on it, if not open radiator cap with engine cold, and it should be full.

2001 ZX-12R: what does the green wire on the ground hook to or ...

Does it look like a factory wire, or could it be from a battery tender that some one had on there? If the wire doesn't reach anything with a screw hole that fits it, I wouldn't worry about it. Hope this helps.

Rough idiling

21,000 is a lot of miles for a motorcycle spark plug. Your valves might need adjusted - I don't know if Kawasaki has solids or hydraulic in this model. Your carbs might be in need of adjustment. When was your last tune up? If you don't remember, it is time for a little TLC for the bike, my friend. Your motorcycle is 9 years old now ... it is time for service.

HI,

measure voltage going to solenoid for power when you hit the start switch.... you should hear a small clicking sound coming from the solenoid .if no clicking... the solenoid might be going bad. maybe the starter ground wire is broken internally or its possible that you bought a defective starter...you might want to take the starter to a dealer or repair shop to insure it in good working order. the battery you have should be up to a minimum 12.6v 12v wont be enough! 13v is perfect so you"ll have to get it trickle charged up. Oh and before we go on any further, do you know how to push start a motorcycle?have you tried this yet maybe the engine cylinders is seized up from no oil lubrication...get back to me on this you need to know if the engine is seized-up! put in neutral run real fast along side of the bike then pull yourself on top of bike ,pull in the clutch push down into first gear the pop the clutch while you sit down on the seat at the same time. MAKE sure the key is on when you do this and also make sure the kill switch is set to run. if it starts then this is probably your problem ....not getting enough oil to keep it form seizing up...so turn off the engine quick...don't want any further damage. let me know how it turns out.

Valve adjustment

Hi brookeside14
Not sure what the Merc marine motors are like, but this style of motorcycle engine  are twin overhead cam with bucket and shim type adjustments valve lash adjustments. Best way to tell you to go about this is to download a full manual from here, it has detailed procedures and everything you need to know to set the valve adjustments. Thanks for using FixYa, a FixYa rating is a great reward for my time to get this info to you. Cheers

What would causes the brake & signal light not to work on a 2001 Kawasaki ZX-12R?

I had the same issue on my GL1800. Turns out I had a bad ground in the brake light circuit. It was my major pin connector under the seat. I'm sorry if this doesn't help, but it sounds like a bad ground.Try checking the connectors for the rear brakes. Disconnect and clean each pin connector. If that doesn't work, maybe run a jumper line from a brake light ground to a frame ground source. If the lights come back on, the ground is the issue.

All my lights just went out except my turn signals what could it be? i have a 2003 zx 12

If everything like the dash and other lights work except the headlights, check the fuses first then the high beam switch for faulty contacts inside most likely. Either take the switch apart or spray contact cleaner (can get from radio schack) into the switch while flipping it on/off high/low beam several times to clean it.
