2005 Harley Davidson FLSTF - FLSTFI Fat Boy - Page 5 Questions & Answers
What is the difference between
I believe all 2005 Fat Boys were EFI and no production models w/carb. Generally, the difference between an EFI tank and carb tank is that the EFI has a fuel return port. If you look at the left side bottom you will see what appears to be two fuel lines. One is supply and the other is return from the fuel pump. I believe 1999 was last year of carbed Fat Boys. Left side tank has only one fuel supply port.
How to drain the gas tank on a 05 fatboy
You arent going to like this ... but it is the simple way ...
Drive around the block till you are empty ...
You could syphon the gas if you have a hose ...
if you syphon ... get all you can then run the engine until you run out of gas.
you could remove the tank ... there is a bolt at the rear of the seat to remove that ... then a rubber grommet (in all likely hood) at the rear of the tank that holds that ...

ENGINE HESITATES/SPITS WHILE RIDING AT ALL SPEEDS
What has been done to it lately? Suspect that first if anything has.
Probably the fuel has gone bad, after sitting all winter, you did put fresh gas into it right? I am guessing water from condensation and the ethanol gas. Don't use any "drygas" it will just put more alcohol in the gas tank which you do not want. You can try a product called "StarTron" too if the fresh gas does not help. Last thing I know is a product available at the motorcycle shop comes in a solid black plastic bottle that will make the water in the gas dissolve back into the gas so it can be burned, but I can not remember the name of it. All the shops up here where I am have it. And it was developed specifically because of the condensation/water problem the ethanol gas causes with motorcycles.
Pick up something called Sea Foam at WalMart and put some it the gas to help clean out the passageways and jets. The new ethanol gas is real bad on scoots.
Hope this helps.

I'm assuming you're talking about the positioning of the shifter lever. The lever has a large bolt through it. Take the bolt completely out and pull the lever off the splined shaft. Reposition the lever where you want it, push it back on the shaft, and reinstall the bolt. I hope this is what you wanted to know, Good Luck, Steve
I have a 1981 suzuki gs250t one day it started the
1st check the fuse(s) are OK.
Sounds like a dead battery, either old or not being recharged by system.
The voltage across it should be at least 12.2 volts switched off rising to 12.5 -15 volts with engine running
If battery OK then check connections & wiring from battery to ignition switch & back out into the loom
Hope this helps (if so please mark as very helpful)

Harley won't start ... starter not working
That clicking sound you are hearing may be a circuit breaker tripping indicating a short circuit somewhere. I think the starter circuit is powered by the ignition circuit. If you have a short circuit in your ignition system the breaker will trip killing power to your ignition, thus the engine dying, and preventing power for the starter circuit preventing the bike from being restarted.
On your bike, I believe there is a chrome coil cover over the coil on the left side of the bike. Check and see if this cover has come loose. I've seen them come loose and fall down on the coil connector on top of the coil shorting it out. If that ain't it, just keep looking, there's a short somewhere. Good Luck
2005fatboy keeps sputtering and stalling out has
Could be a fuel line restriction, bad petcock, problem with the vacuum line to the petcock if this is a carburated engine. Could be something as simple as a bad gas cap. Try loosening the gas cap just a bit and ride to see if does it then. Loosen the right side tank cap.
If it's fuel infected, I'm sorry but I can't help you.
