2995 fatboy speedometer moving during trickle charge
Be VERY carefull when charging the battery on this bike!! DO NOT overcharge!! The 2005 models have a "bus wire" that runs the speedo, security, and ECM. If you overcharge it,you could fry all 3 !! If the battery isnt taking a charge,...replace it! Its not worth the $1500.00 it will take to fix the other things over a $80.00 battery.
Speedometer and fuel gauge stop working where are fuses
The fuses are under the seat. They have a black cover with orange writing on it. In an attempt to fix your speedo problem, remove the speed sensor from the right rear of the transmission housing. It is held in place with an allen bolt. Remove the bolt and twist the sensor slightly while pulling it up. Once it is out, check the magnet on the bottom for debris. Clean off any debris (metal shavings) and reinstall it. Ride the bike and see if this solves the problem.
Where are the fuses in 2005 fatboy
Fuses are located under the seat, in back of the battery, between the battery and the ECM connector. They are under a removable plastic cover. Try charging the battery to get rid of the clicking. Sounds like you may have enough juice to activate the starter solenoid, but not enough to crank the starter.
While warming up the bike
I don't like the sound of that on two counts. The oil pressure warning lamp should come on only when the engine is not running and stay on until the engine is running, whether in or out of gear.
The metal slapping sound is possibly, due to the cold weather depending upon the high mileage, piston slap. That is not too serious in the case of an Iron Head, (like my 1963 XLCH1000) as they have done many miles but a newer machine it is somewhat worrying.
A good friend of mine has a 1200 Sportster. His problem was oil pump. The pump couldn't keep up with the engine revs and he finished up on one piston, the other was in the sump.
Make sure the oil pressure is good and check for dirty oil. If the bike has not been started for a while, the dry sump fills up with oil and that causes odd noises until it clears ina minute or so.
Check that oil warning lamp!!!
When i start & ride
If you thought it was the exhaust gasket, it is likely a head gasket - they can have a very similar sound - especially on an air cooled engine. Perhaps you should do a pressure test - run the cylinder to TDC and use an air compressor to gradually pressurize the cylinder through the spark plug hole using an adapter rig you can make yourself. Then either listen carefully or use dish soap and water or glass cleaner around the head gasket and look for bubbles.
Where is the oil plug to drain the oil on a 2005
The oil drain hose comes of the lower back side of the oil tank on the right side of the bike. It runs down behind the transmission and comes out just in front of the swingarm down low on the frame. It either dead ends there with a plug in the end or it connects to a crossmember of the frame that runs underneath the transmission. If it connects to this crossmember, the drain plug is on the bottom side of the crossmember directly opposite the hose.
Good luck

My 2005 harley fat boy
Hi,
This will be transmission/gearbox fluid if it smells like you said it does. Yes you need to warm it up and then check the gearbox fluid level, this can be refilled through the filler bolt ehich is on the left hand side of the gearbox at thetop middle. Its a large head bolt.
Let ,me know if you need more help.
Thanks
Jason
Right turn signals not working, fuses good, right
Contact me directly and I'll send you some information about the turn signals. it's too much for me to type here. Drop me an e-mail at
[email protected] Remind me of what you want. Make sure the turn signal unit is the problem. They're expensive and most dealers won't give refunds on electrical parts.
Good Luck

I need torqe spes. for
The lower rocker box bolt torque specs are:
5/16th inch bolts = 15-18 ft. lbs.
1/4 inch bolts = 10-13 ft. lbs.
The upper socket head bolts are 1/4" bolts but torque to 100 in. lbs. according to the book. Go figure.
Good Luck
Steve
