1994 Fiat Uno. How to change speedo cable on an Uno 1100 please?

The Uno dash has two small Allen bolts on the sides of the gauges. Unscrew them, and gently pull the instrument cluster forward and out of the dash. The speedo cable has a plastic clip that holds the cable to the speedometer. The clip unclips from the speedo with a gentle pull away from it.

Speedo keeps sticking then works again and so on

Best just to replace the inner cable.
You can try unplugging it under the dash and shooting wd40 a little at a time down the cable to lube it first

Hope this helps Mike.

The speedometer on My 1995 honda civic doesn't

Sounds like you need a new speedo cable .... first step is to get a repair manual. If you can remove the cable from the back of the speedo and have someone hold it while you are driving, if you apply light pressure to hold the cable in solidly, and then try to stop the cable from spinning, but not so much that you snap the cable yourself. The cable should spin while the car is moving forward. Once you replace the speedo cable the speedo and odometer should work again, if not it might be the speedo head, which spins the cable. Try to get a manual. Haynes is OK but the factory Honda manual might actually be the most accurate. If I understood this correctly you should be good to go but if you need further assistance feel free to holler back again. If the cable is OK but the speedo still doesn't work it is most likely the speedo guts ... used ones should be available for about $100 or so. The cable should solve your problem hopefully, making further work unnecessary.

I have 1993 jeep grand cherokee spedometor stopped working and rpms are high and fuel consumption is poor

Time for a tune-up! Need to have it diagnosed thoroughly. Likely your speedometer not working is not related, though. I know on the older models the speedo was operated by a cable from transmission up to behind the dash panel. They can break inside the sheath that covers the cable. Pretty simple fix-but you may need to pull out your instrument panel slightly to reach behind and unclip the end of the cable from the speedo. First, unhook end from transmission, grab end of cable and twirl it: someone inside the car can see if the speedo needle moves slightly when you twirl it. If it DOES move your speedo in the dash may need replacing. If it doesn't move, your cable is likely broke. Just get another from a salvage yard.

The speedometer and odometer on both will not work. Are both my speedo cable and cluster in need of replacing? or is there another problem

It may be the cable but its hard to say because i dont know the year, make and model of this car, newwer cars use a speed sensor and not a cable so i would start by checking the speedo cable or the speed sensor on the trany, good luck.

Speedsensor not working needs replacing for manual transmission

Check to see if your speedo is electronic or mechanical, If electronic I recommend replacing the sensor in the rear of the pumpkin, If not and its Mechanical replace the gear in the transmission, check and see if the end that goes into the speedo is warn, cable should be replaced...check to see if the cable end is or should be square and matches the hole in the speedo.

Speedometer Cable replacement

A universal kit will work for your application. Most of the time the center cable is what is damaged.

1. Remove speedometer cable from transmission
2. Remove speedo gear retainer and remove speedo gear.
3. Pull out cable from sheath - If broken you will only get part of it
4. Remove instrument panel and pull out section of cable still trapped in cable sheath if applicable.

For re install follow directions on package.

Pointers

1. Cable appears un-damaged: Check to make sure the speedo gear is not damaged where the cable enters it. Then also check the back of the speedo head cable hole for damage.
2. You can measure you two broken pieces to arrive at an appropriate length for ordering purposes.
3. Make sure this is well lubricated on install otherwise the speedo can jump up and down or damage the new cable.

Speedometer erratic/intermittent

I don't know what is causing this problem, but I know phil140701's answer is completely wrong on two counts. First, 740 Volvos starting at least in 1986 have electronic speedometers and no cable. There is an electronic sensor on the differential which sends a signal to the speedometer cluster. Second, if it were strictly mechanical with a cable then the voltage regulator could have no effect on it at all.
