Reduced Engine Power message comes on along with the engine light. It does this off and on. Sometimes it runs good and sometimes it barely runs at all. What causes this?

Reduced Power means that the PCM has detected an active failure in either the engine, transmission or brake system. You The PCM reduced power to help protect an affected system. You need to start by checking the oil level. How was the engine running and the transmission shifting? Do you have a code reader? The codes need to be retrieved. Please write back with the codes. reduced engine power has to do with the electronic throttle control or drive by wire . All electronic wires under the dash on the gas pedal , electric motor on the throttle body . DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the computer . Take it to the dealer .

O2 sensors can cause this and often they clear up after a good run.

is it the car can't idle and when you step on gas pedal the die?

this may be a computer problem or fuelpump, i would start by having the computer scanned for any stored codes. these codes will help in pin pointing the problem so start there. hope this is helpful. good luck.

I had the same problem. Solved it with a new battery. Had the old one tested and it was bad.

Does the reduced engine power message come on? if it does check the electric connector at the throttle body. sometimes the wires get dirty or something. and usually the yellow one.
