SOURCE: rear defrost on 97 buick lesabre not working

your problem is in the window..........if you are getting 12v to the wires that connect to the window the lines in the window must have a break in them ............. they must conduct the dc volts to complete the circut, the lines heat form the voltage running through them thus ridding your window of fog and ice
hope this helps...........thanks for choosing FIX YA!

SOURCE: rear defroster on 2002 alero does not work

I found this on another site... it seems like a credible post so I thought I'd share... I'm going to check it out next weekend.

"Just an FYI. The rear defroster issue is due to a bad Antenna Buffer Module / Antenna Module. The power to the rear defogger goes through a module that separates the antenna amplifier signal from the 12 volt power to the defogger. The defogger elements also act as the antenna. The module is behind the rear pillar right behind the rear passenger door. The inside plastic has to be gently pulled off, the seat needs to be folded down to get the lower part of the trim off. One screw at the bottom, unplug the wires... (two connect to the window grid, mark which one is which)... and the module is free.
The module may require re-soldering of the pins joining the main power connectors to the internal circuit board. If you feel you can do this (or have a friend do it for you), go for it... else get another module from the dealer to replace it."

This is the most credible of the several posts that I've seen talking about this module. I know its there... I saw it yesterday when I was working on the car.

Wiring diagram for 2005 grand marquis for rear defroster

Relay maybe . free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size . Under system click Body & accessories ,then under subsystem click on rear window defogger . Click the search button then the blue link .Looking at the diagram you will see three fuse's , a relay ,lighting control module , defroster switch . The switch is a input to the lighting control module , the lighting control module will supply a ground to the control side of the rear window defroster relay ,energizing the relay sending B+ power to the defroster grid.

The rear defroster is not working

check for current at the back electrodes that connect to the heating element for rear defroster.
check that the light goes on the button area for it to verify if any power is going to the circuit.
check for a fuse that powers the rear defroster.
Also, check that the relay for it is clicking or provides power to the rear defoster.

Good luck for this repair.

I have a 2002 Corolla GS. Rear window defroster not working

The main cause for the rear window not working is a disconnected wire at either side of the defroster grid. You can see where the body harness connects to the rear glass.

The second most liekly cause are broken defroster grid wires.

I would suggest to you to obtain a 12 volt DC testlamp, and check for voltage as follows, at the rear defroster.

Hook the clamp of the testlamp up to a known good ground. The back door latch 'hoop' is great. Next, turn on the rear defroster, and place the point of the tip on the extreme side of the back window, on the grid. Does it the tester light up bright? If not, try the other side.

The light, moving across the grid, should get noticeably dimmer, if the grid is functioning properly. The light will go out when you encounter a broken grid wire..

check your fuses first, with a test light, then if you have power there take your test light and turn on the rear defroster and probe the wires that connect to the rear defroster in the rear window.if you have power there it is a faulty defroster in the glass

Rear Defroster Problem

1 st of all check all the fuses if all are good it may be the switch itself .......if you are referring to just the defroster ensure both connections are connected to th rear window if there are any breaks in the defroster lines as you will they sell a metal fill type repair kit not expensive and with the use of tape and this mixture you can easily repair the breaks in the defroster lines ........but first ck your fuses and connections maby determine with the use of a test light and check for power at both the switch and the rear wire connections for power to them otherwise it is most likely the switch
