Alternator is failing. Cheaper to replace than to try to disassemble and rebuild.

2000 Mustang v6 dies in the middle of the highway less than 2 weeks after replacing alternator?

Are you saying it died because of battery or charging system? I've seen info that says generator rebuilders have a tough time with rebuilding ford generators. It's not uncommon for them to be faulty right out of the box. What testing have you done on your battery and charging system? Any applicable trouble codes? The problem might be something unrelated to battery and charging system. I mentioned the generator because you mentioned it.

71 c10 not staying charged... new battery alternator fuses good and new voltage regulator

Maybe it wasn't running long enough to charge up the battery?
Stop trying to jump it, when you are having problems with it dying, take the battery off and have it charged. And/or buy a $20 voltmeter to see what the battery shows. If it says less than 12 volts, it is discharged, and needs charging. A good battery that is not run down should have at least 12.5 volts. A new battery that is charged should have very close to 13 volts, maybe 12.8 volts.
When you have the truck running, check the alternator for charging. You put the voltmeter right on the battery and check it again. This time, with truck running, battery should show at least 13.5 volts. That shows the alternator is working. A good alternator will put out about 13 or 14 volts-the regulator will keep it from going any higher to prevent problems, like a melting battery or electrical parts burning out.
I would say get the charging system working right, then address the problem of dying at stop lights. That could be a carburetor problem, if the alternator is working.

  • This is classic of your alternator going bad. Sometimes, when it first begins to go bad it will function on and off. Soon it just stops charging the battery all together. The battery has one function and that is to start the car. Then the alternator is ran by the belt and charges the battery and in effect runs the car. The reason for the lights coming on is the power fail in the car.
  • Buying a new battery worked for a short time because the fresh battery ran the car but with no alternator to charge the battery the car soon died again.
  • The fix is to replace the alternator. Do it soon or even that new battery will go bad from being drained so much.

Battery keeps draining

if your battery died while driving and the car cut off while your driving,, your problem is from your alternator!!!,, on a normal working car, you can start, remove ther battery terminals and the car would still run cause the alternator will be powering the car. In your case the alternator isnt working and the car was working on battery power therefore when the battery went dead the car cut off.. Your alternator need \s to be charging between 13.5 and 14.2 volts.. as little as 10 volts will keep the vehicle running.. I'd suggest you have the alternator replaced.

Battery light keeps coming on. brand new battery in car and car keeps dieing

Hi:
The battery light means that your charging system isn't working, so you most likely have a bad alternator, or connection to the battery.
You can test your alternator with a volt meter.
First, get your battery 100% charged up. It should read about 12.6 volts.
Next, start your car, and check the voltage across the battery. It should be at least 14 volts. If not, you are not charging your battery.
Most auto parts stores will check out your battery or alternator for free, if you stop by and don't own or can borrow a volt meter.

Car won't start even after new battery purchase

Alternator problem, the alternator charges the battery when car is running, so it has probably died now. Was working at reduced capacity for a while, which is why you were only getting a partial charge for some time. Now you have an open circuit completely as alternator has failed completely, time for a visit to an auto electrician. PS replacing acid in battery with distilled water is not a good idea. It probably was time for a new battery anyway.
