To remove the ignition lock:
CAUTION
You must remove the steering wheel when replacing the ignition lock. On vehicles with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system, you must temporarily disable the SIR system and remove the inflator module when removing the steering wheel. Leaving the SIR system on could result in deployment of the air bag and possible personal injury.

  • Disconnect the negative battery cable, and remove the steering wheel.
  • Remove the bumper and the carrier snapring retainer from the steering shaft.
  • Use a lock plate compressor screw tool to install the lock plate compressor screw in the upper steering shaft. To keep the shaft from telescoping, tighten it to 40 inch lbs.
  • Using the lock plate compressor tool, install on the upper steering shaft, tighten it to depress the shaft lock. Remove the shaft lock retainer, the compressor tool and the steering shaft lock.
  • Remove the turn signal canceling cam assembly. Put the turn signal switch in the "N" position and remove the upper bearing spring.
  • Position the turn signal switch so the mounting screws can be removed through the holes in the switch and remove the turn signal lever.
  • Remove the turn signal switch-to-steering column screws and lift the turn signal switch. Remove the wire protector and disconnect the turn signal switch connector.
  • Use a terminal remover tool to disconnect the buzzer switch wires from the turn signal switch connector. Remove the buzzer switch assembly with needle-nose pliers.
  • Place the lock cylinder in the ACC position, then remove the lock retaining screw and the lock cylinder set.
  • To install the new cylinder lock, reverse the removal procedures.
  • Tighten the lock retaining screw to 22 inch lbs., the turn signal switch screws to 59 inch lbs. and turn the turn signal lever screw to 53 inch lbs.
  • As part of the final replacement procedures, check the operation of the switches and the steering column.

How can I start my 2005 Ford focus SE without the key chip

I'm sorry, but it is not possible to start a 2005 Ford Focus SE without the key chip. The key chip, also known as a transponder key, is a security feature that prevents unauthorized access to the vehicle. Without the key chip, the car's engine immobilizer system will prevent the car from starting.

If you do not have the original key with the chip, you will need to obtain a new key with a chip from a Ford dealership or a qualified automotive locksmith. They will be able to cut a new key to match the locks on your car and program the new key chip to work with your car's immobilizer system.

Please note that attempting to start the car without the key chip or trying to bypass the immobilizer system may cause damage to the car's electrical system and could potentially lead to other issues. It is important to have a proper working key chip to ensure the safe and reliable operation of your vehicle.

My key is locked in the ignition and won't turn. Have moved the sterring wheel but still can't start vehicle

Toyota trucks are nortorious with ingnition problems, spay some wd-40 in the key hole as best you can and move key up and down in rocking motion and turn wheel back and forth as you do this and hopfuly it will turn. if it dont than get the whole ingintion out and try to buy a new one, Ebay perhaps might have one more reasonable for price.

05 ford focus, key won't turn in the ignition, tried both sets of keys.

Try wiggling the key and tapping near the ignition and see.If the Key starts turning in the ignition. Also spray wd-40 in the ignition switch hole and let the wd-40 spray liquid remain in there for 30 minutes then see if you can turn the key in ignition.Try this wd-40 spray couple of times,if still the same problem then, the ignition has to be replaced. Also the keys are to be reprogrammed by the dealer.Without getting your car key reprogrammed they will not work with new ignition lock cylinder. This problem is very common in ford focus, many other users too have noticed this and are very disappointed with the ford service due to this problem.Click this link directly to see the same problem with other ford focus users;--- http://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Focus/2003/accessories-interior/key_wont_turn_in_the_ignition.shtml ----------------- Thank you.

My car starts without the key how much to fix 1997 thunderbird ford

Hi,
Before going to get it fixed. Spray some WD-40 into the ignition cylinder where you put the key in and let it soak. The lock tumblers may just be stuck and need lubrication. If thet fails then call a ford dealer and ask how much for a coded (this means the key will match your existing key and also open your doors) and an uncoded ignition cylinder ( key will turn the ignition but you will need your old keys to open the doors) The Ford keys were designed where one half of the key operated the locks and the other half operated the ignition. If you buy a new ignition key and cylinder it will only be half cut to operate just the ignition. The cost of all this differs dealer to dealer, and don't forget that there are locksmiths in you yellow pages that will do this also
Hope this helps

Replace the ign. lock cylinder. Put old chip key in new cylinder. Plug it in to the connector at bottom of steering column by the dash after removing the wire from old lock cylinder. With duplicate key to turn old cylinder start car. Be sure to clean the battery cables and replace bolts. Hide the new cylinder under dash with chip key in it.

Steering wheel locked and ignition wont turn

Yes it does sound to me like the key is the problem.
the only other thing for a steering locking up would be the steering lock silenoid but that is activated by the brake pedal and the key has to be turned
if this is the orginal key it could be something else because the key and the tumblers inside the ingintion would wear down the same time together, but is the is a replacement key or back-up it will be the key because the tumblers would have been worn done by a different key.
try wiggling the key as you turn maybe you can get it to turn.
You will likely have to replace the ignition and key together.
