1996 Chev Cavalier 2.2 automatic When backing up and turning to the right I hear a clunking noise from the front end. Hard to say but I think it's comming from the front left side.

This would be your CV joint going out on that side. Probably has a bit of a grinding feel to it as well. The way to tell which side, and to confirm, jack up the suspected side until the front wheel is just off the ground. Leave the other side on the ground. Make sure you put it on a jack stand or block. Set the parking brake, and Start the car. Put it into gear, and turn the wheel to the side that it normally clunks. It will probably sound fine until you turn to the extreme, and then it will start clunking. Do the same for the other side, and it shouldn't do it. It's usually the outer CV joint that goes out, and often times you can see it by a torn CV boot.

Why does my front end have a humming sound?

Have you checked the CV Axles? Since the noise goes away turning left to right. Another slim possibility may be the brake calipers but you said humming. And I would (assume- which means not always so) stuck calipers would only make the noise in one direction.

Front end chunking sound

Your two thoughts are probably correct. If you feel it more in your seat, it's probably the mounts. If you feel it more in the steering wheel, CV shafts.

Car drives and shifts, but theres a clunking noise

check the brake dust shield beind the rotor. That might be a good start. Not sure what you mean by clunking but also check your engine mounts bushing and sway bar bushing. Good luck

Front End Noise, Chev Cavalier

It sounds like you have a bad c v or constant velocity joint. Look under the car next to the wheel look for a rubber accordian type unit, if the rubber is torn or lose the grease has escaped and damaged the joint. You can replace it yourself, but if your not mechanically inclined would say take it to a shop.
