If the clicking sound comes from the solenoid when you try to start the engine the solenoid may need replacing, the solenoid is like a big switch that takes the power from the battery to the starter motor, inside it there contacts that come together to make contact & that is where the problem is.....hope this helps.....cheers

Car makes clicking sound but does not start

You most likely either have a very low battery or a bad starter solenoid. The starter solenoid is serviced only by replacing the starter motor assembly. This condition (only clicking when trying to start) can also be caused by loose or corroded battery cables.

2000 explorer will not start makes clicking sound replaced battery, plugs, wires, starter

Fords usually have a starter solenoid separate from the starter. If the contacts are bad in the solenoid it will make the clicking sound. Replace the solenoid and it will start.

Wont start funny clicking sound when i turn the key ???

Hi!!

The clicking you are hearing, is the sound of a weak battery, Jump start the vehicle and take it to an AutoZone for a Charging System check.

Good Luck!!

Car wont start

Fully charge battery remove and take to a shop, bench test the battery. If its not the battery remove the starter and bench test it, its either the battery or the starter.

Car trouble

Check the solenoid on the starter motor - it makes a clicking sound both when the battery's low and when the solenoid's bad.

Wont start

is the earth cable giving a good engine and body contact.does your starter have two terminals and if so are they the right way around?is the battery any good?Is the engine able to be turned over by hand Make sure you have agood 12v supply to the starter solenoid when cranking the engine An engine test probe/light would be of a lot of use for you to do that test
