No, Dodge, Chrylser, nor Plymouth ever made a 429. As the previous post mentioned, Ford did make a 429. But I doubt this is the case with your van, because that would mean someone shoe-horned a Ford 429 into your Dodge van. Giving the rarity of 429's to start with, not at all likely. The number you see is not related to diplacement, but something else. If your engine is a V8 I would guess it is a 360.

Hmmm... Have never heard of Dodge having a 429.. Ford made a 429, Dodge has the 440 and the 426 hemi.... unless they changed the bore and stroke for some models... which I think unlikely...

hold on... rereading your post... the only motors ever available in the caravan:

  • 1984–1987 2.2 L K I4, 84 hp (63 kW)
  • 1984–1987 2.6 L Mitsubishi G54B I4, 114 hp (85 kW)
  • 1987½–1990 2.5 L K I4, 100 hp (75 kW)
  • 1987½–1989 3.0 L Mitsubishi 6G72 V6, 136 hp (101 kW)
  • 1989–1990 2.5 L Turbo I4150 horsepower (110 kW)
  • 1990 3.0 L Mitsubishi 6G72 V6, 141 hp (105 kW)
  • 1990 3.3 L EGA V6, 150 hp (110 kW)

  • if it happens to be a '91 they added the 3.8l

  • 1991–1995 2.5 L K I4, 100 hp (70 kW) and 135 lb·ft (183 N·m)
  • 1991–1995 3.0 L Mitsubishi 6G72 V6, 150 hp (112 kW) and 173 lb·ft (235 N·m)
  • 1991–1995 3.3 L EGA V6, 162 hp (121 kW) and 194 lb·ft (263 N·m).
  • 1994–1995 3.8 L EGH V6, 162 hp (121 kW) and 213 lb·ft (289 N·m).

My 1990 dodge ram van,318 ci eng.starts only when cold.Starter turns o.k.Runs well whe hot.Paul.

My first car was a 1969 Dodge Coronet station wagon with the 318 cubic inch engine. Loved it!
In my experience, the most common reason for this behavior is a bad crank or cam position sensor (assuming your car has one of those), since they tend to fail hot.
Another possibility is that a dirty or worn ignition switch is supplying power to starter, but not the engine, when it gets warm. Try spraying with WD-40 to see if that helps.

I've just been quoted the price of $1465 for replacing the computer engine + a new battery for my 2000 Dodge Stratus at the dealership. Is this a reasonable charge or not?

When you say new engine I have to assume we are talking a manufactured short block engine. Here is a list price of just such an engine:
    CHRYSL 2 122 4 C 2000-01 Neon, Stratus, Breeze,FWD,SOHC, MFl, 16 Valve,upper blk #642,651,lower blk #769,head #737,crank #755,valve cover has 10-6mm bolts, extra 8mm bolt under #2 &#3 intake port,with water pump Head part # call DD91 $1,990
Here is a page you should view for brand new engines as a comparison.

If your going to get a manufactured short block engine replacement, and an engine computer along with a new battery AND labor you are getting a fair price.

Removing distributor cap dodge ram 1500 5.9

If this is a van you will remove the cover from inside the van. The center cover comes out and you will have full access to the engine. Your manual should show you how to remove it but it is usually very simple. Hope this helps.
