po171 and po174 codes mean system lean bank one and two. Ford Taurus's have issues with intake gaskets leaking when its cold then as the car warms up they swell up and seal causing the car to run better. Also they have an issue with the elbow that connects the pcv valve to the intake getting weak and collapsing the finally busting causing a bad vacuum leak. I would check these two issues first. You can test the intake leak with a can of carb or throttle body cleaner. Start the car and while its running bad spray the cleaner around the where the intake bolts to the engine and other vacuum if the problem is found you will notice a change in how the engine runs or it may stall if it goes back running bad hit that area again with the cleaner if it changes the engine there is your problem.

P171 and 174 is running lean that means you have either no fuel pressure, bad fuel pump, cloged fuel filter and somethimes vacum leak on your intake manifold gasket.
443 indicates EGR valve solenoid malfunction.

Check Engine Light 2003 X' Type 2.5 Told that previous owner drove the car for a long time without resetting and it will take 3 to 15 resets before it sets permanently. No codes show up on the reader...

When you reset a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) on any OBD2 vehicle (Late 97 and up) you have to drive it for an unspecified period of time after the code is cleared before it will pass an emissions test. This is so people don\'t clear them right before going for an inspection.
If the light was on, there is a problem. Rarely does resetting the code fix it. I would run it until the light comes on then read the code. You can assess the problem from there.

What your asking, is how to make a malfunction light
go away from your dash, so you can forget you have a
problem & make no attempt to repair the car

Until you find & resolve active OBD2 Codes that actually set
a MIL or Check Lamp it will keep coming back

Every time you clear a code you have to run a drive cylce in
some cases to start the procees over, as you need those codes
to diagnose the issues

The codes that are there, do not tell you what to replace

Without writing a book here, just study OBD Systems online &
take the car to a repair shop

It is beyond your ability at this time to figure out

Yes and the way it runs.
Disconnect and plug the vacuum lines to the EGR, and see if you still have idle and driveability issues. If not replace the Valve.

Would changing the pos wire to the starter fix the mis fireing problem

If the positive wire is getting hot, then you have a bad connection on the ground wire. Take it off and clean the terminals and tighten then up. Ifyou don't want them to corrode any more then put some petroleum jelly on them. This prevents air from getting to them and in turn prevents oxidation. Good luck
