the knock sensor adjusts the timing, advances/retards the in case the engine : knocks , retards or diesels

Knocks can be external or internal Locate source or knock by removing fan belt does knock go away then turn each pulley by hand to find the bad component. Internal knocks are harder to diagnose due to concealment deep rattle squeak and knocks are the lower end a typewriter ticking knock can be the valve train.

Manual transmission ?? Noise coming from Engine ?? Transmission ?? These rigs are notorious for crankshaft main bearing issues.....Does the engine crankshaft have excessive end play ??

If the oil light is on and the engine knocks then there is major damage in the engine. Pull and replace the engine.

Says timing chain?and engine knocks when accelerate,timing chain not going to cause that knock,

You didn't state the mileage (would help with diagnosis) But unfortunately you have suffered major engine damage. And that would depend if the knocking you hear is steady at engine idle or only knocks when reving the engine . For some reason the oil pressure did fall to zero, most likely due to bearing wear but again depends on mileage. If knocks constant at idle it is a spun main bearing, if knocks only while reving engine it is a spun connecting rod bearing. Either require an engine overhaul. Or engine swap, Once again it depends on how many miles you have the engine to determine if its wise to rebuild it or replace it. I hope this answers your Q.....

Could be a lot of things, but engine bearings will knock in different ways.
A rod bearing knocks under acceleration. a main bearing knocks under decelaration.

wrist pins can knock in the piston

worn valve train components can raise a racket also.

A mechanics stethoscope can help locate the source.

the engine knocks or is it more like a thud? could be motor mounts and you are hearing your engine drop back into place when you release the accelerator petal... could also be bad gas or water in your gas

if its at the top end its pistion slap
if its at the bottem end(of your engine) its a crank shaft bearing.

with out going into extream detail,

a ting sound at the top is a pistion slap.... replace all your pistions posibly over hual the engine.

a dubble knock that gose with rpm but sounds 2 knocks very every fireing of the pistion is a crank bearing..... replace your crank shaft bearings.... all of them b/c metal gose threw an engine extreamly fast and will destroy other beraings. this knock on start up will turn into a knock all the time, then a very louad knock that will end your engines life.

unfortunetly the answer is engine rebuild and fast.

2 things that this SUV are known foe Rod knocks and bad tranny.. both very $$$$$ but they are great when they are working right.... Rod knocks are very VERY bad
