Brake light, battery light, antilock brake light coming on

My 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante is experiencing a strange problem. The battery light and emergency brake light will intermittently turn on. Occasionally the anti-lock brake light will come on too. When this happens, everything gets dimmer. The car continues to run fine. It starts with no problem.
Could it be a bad battery? Alternator?
I don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but this all started happening immediately after I replaced my rear right tire. I don't see how that could be the cause but I thought I'd throw it out there.
Thanks!

This issue sounds like a grounding issue, teh main clue being everything gets dimmer. sometimes an additional ground is a faster repair than finding and resolving under dash issues.

This issue will likely NOT be battery or alternator.

Love the right rear tire clue, and it should not be related..

How do you adjust the hand brake on a 2001 Mitsubishi diamante

1. Adjust the rear drum shoes for minimal clearance. Note that the linings may need replacing.

2. If necessary (and may not be) replace the two hand brake cables. Cables can rust solid and jam, but rarely break.

3. Remove the center tunnel cover between the front seats. Adjust the cables so the hand brake handle has minimal upward movement.

4. Put it all back together.

Tcl and antilock brake lights stay on

This may be indicating a faulty wheel speed sensor, the unusual sounds may be a worn wheel bearing, which could be the cause of the sensor not working. Have the suspect wheel hub examined.

Ani brake light comes on somtimes

"ani brake light"??? Do you mean Antilock Brake light? If the antilock brake warning lamp is illuminating while driving under normal driving conditions, then you probably have a malfunction in your antilock brake system. You must scan your antilock brake control module to find out why it has been illuminating the light. Wheel speed sensor malfunctions are a common cause of the symptoms you are describing, but you cannot be sure if that is what is causing it, or which one is causing the problem without scanning the controller and performing proper diagnosis.

You may have a bad alternator which is still charging but not regulating current. The electrical spikes will throw off the ABS module and other computers in the car. Have it checked ASAP before it causes damage to thee PCM.

Hi I have a Mitsubishi Lancer Wagon and for some strange reason my brake lights come on, usually at night. The only way to get them off is to disconnect the battery. Connecting the battery next morning...

It would appear the brake light switch has either failed or came out of adjustment. Look under the dash at your brake pedal and bracket, you should see a switch that when the pedal is press, the pedal moves away from it. In short this pedal is normally closed ( in the on position) and when your brake pedal comes back (foot off the brake) the switch then opens, turning off the brake lights. This switch may have failed on or has simply come out of adjustment and is not coming in proper contact with the brake pedal.

I hope this may have assited you,

Antilock break light stays on

you have a defective doom light switch, when u brake the body of the car flexes and that is just enough to turn on the switch, have the dealer scan the car to isolate the bad switch.
