What year is your explorer, if it is a newer one say within the last 10 years it could be from either the rear end or it could be from a hub bearing in the front end. these have problems with hub bearings going out.
Where does this noise seem to be coming from? Front end, rear end? Any vibration in the steering wheel? Dull roar? What kind of tires are on the vehicle? If there is vibration, it could be the U joints on the driveshaft. I had a similar problem with my 98 Explorer. Had the front end aligned several times also had tires balanced, front wheel bearings inside and out replaced. The problem was the Wrangler tires, put a set of Michelin noise disappeared, and it rides better.
i have good tires on it i can grab the yok at the trans and move it quite a bit
