I have a 2001 Mitsubishi montero sport that has new transmission but same problem occurring it shifts hard into reverse with a loud noise could it be the shifting solenoid?

You will have to have the solenoid body replaced in the tranny and have the PCM reprogrammed.

It could be lash in the differential which is normal, but it could also be a loose u-joint in the driveshaft. Check the rear driveshaft u-joints.

SOURCE: Changing transmission filter on Mitsubishi

FIRST YOU HAVE TO UNBOLT THE TRANSMISSION PAN ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TRANSMISSION. THERE WILL BE FLUID IN IT SO BE CAREFUL NO TO SPILL IT. AFTER THE PAN IS OFF YOU WILL SEE THE FILTER ON THE BOTTOM OF THE VALVE BODY. IT MAY BE BOLTED ON AS WELL. HOPE THIS HELPS. LET ME KNOW. GOOD LUCK

My 01 montero sport goes into park, but won't crank. I shifting to neutral and starting it but still nothing. If I play with it running through the gears, eventually I hit a sweet spot and it will turn...

Could be neutral safety switch.
