Reach up behind grill or if you can remove grill and will see latch the black cable is the latch cable try to grab with vise grip or some type of pliers and pull down and try to have cable disengage latch
Testimonial: "thanks John will give it a go! will let you know how it goes"
Depends on where it snapped.
If it is accessible under the dash, clamp some vice-grips on it and pull.
If it is broken somewhere under the bonnet it gets a lot trickier as you'll need to find a way to trip the latch. Reply as a comment if we need to explore that.
definitely under the bonnet somewhere..
That's definitely a PITA.
If it were me, I would find another one with an unbroken cable, open it, and look VERY carefully at the latch mechanism.
I would pretend that the bonnet was closed and then try to determine how I could access the latch to release it. Have someone pull on the release while you look at how the mechanism functions. Once you have figured it out using the "helper" vehicle, it's usually not too long before you succeed with resolving the problem.
It is possible that you may need to invent a tool from a piece of bent steel rod. Whatever works.
Keep me posted.
Cheerfuls.
Reach up under it with wire cutters, Cut it as far away from the latch as you can. Pull it down and cut the coating off the cable. Pull the cable to release. Most just leave it this way. I replace them
Thanks for the tip Randy.
Since the bonnet is closed and the break is somewhere in the engine compartment, it can be quite difficult to reach up under the vehicle past the engine to find the cable. I've not managed to do it. That's why I try to find out how the latch works and trip it. Then I'd not close it again until a new cable was installed.
