Turned radio off then battery died, got vehicle fixed but no power to factory radio, all fuses check as good. Is there a trick to getting the radio to turn on again?

Radio worked perfectly before we turned it off, then something made the battery die and vehicle sat for about 2 weeks, removed battery to charge in the house, replaced the battery and vehicle started fine but died completely on the way to garage. Radio will not come on and mechanic stated all fuses are working.

When the battery dies or is removed , the anti-theft code of the radio kicks in and the unit will not work again until a special code for that radio is reinstalled
the code could be in the user manual in the radio use section ,or there are sites on the net that may have the code for you

  • Randy Ohler Mar 24, 2016

There is also a fuse on the back of the radio..

  • Bill Boyd Mar 24, 2016

you can check the radio but if you have a light in the face of the radio , it will be the code problem
If you bought the vehicle new from a ford dealer , they may still have the code on record

My 2004 Ford Escapes radio wont work and it doesnt let me lock my doors when the car isnt running it also doesnt ding when the car doors are open. what is happening?

Hello Al,

Does your dash display a flashing "service soon" indicator?
Have you checked for fault codes?

You have a good battery, your ignition switch is powering up the vehicles dash board and the vehicle will start and operate normally....?

Any lights on the radio display?
Check for 12 volts on the radio power lead...no power? check for 12 volts across the accessory / radio position in the fuse box. No power but fuse is good...wiring issue in the harness.

Power across fused circuit no power to radio check radio's in line fuse...fuse good? ... radio bad or disconnected speaker wires.

Make sure all your vehicles grounding positions are clean and tight.

When you say your door locks don't work are your talking about the switch on the door or the remote fob?

Check your owners manual to check for any radio reset info.

After having had to jump start the battery, the camera and radio don't work. How do you reset it or check to see if something got disconnected when jumped.?

You have almost certainly blown a fuse, or more than one, when you jumped the vehicle. When you jump a vehicle , it is best to have everything turned off - AC, radio, lights, everything. . . Check your manual, determine which fuse or fuses govern the camera and radio and replace them if they're blown. If you did what Andrew mentioned, you may have bigger problems than blown fuses. Good luck.

2007 Pontiac Torrent: Radio drains battery when off.

hmm... well normally that line will also power the clock but i cant see it drawing that much power :/ If you take that fuse out does it still flatten your battery? what about immobilizer? or car alarm? but whatever it is... you may have to divert power to ignition instead of accessories so that it only uses power when the key has been turned to 'on' position... but there's definitely something using power there.... I'm curious!

My battery died so i replaced it and now my radio won't come on. Tried holding down power button, turning on and off ignition. Still has no power. the battery was out of the car for about 4 hours.

If your radio has anti-theft system you will have to go to the dealer and get the accss code to reactivate the radio if you dont have the code already. GM vehicles with anti-theft radios will lock when power is lost to the system if the radio is not turned off prior to battery disconnect or dying.

Battery has full charge but absolutely nothing happens when key turned on

THERE ARE 2 FUSEBOXES ONE UNDER THE HOOD , ONE INSIDE THE VEHICLE. CHECK ALL FUSES WITH A GOOD FUSE TESTER. THERE ARE TEST POINTS FACING OUT ON EACH FUSE. POWER ON ONE SIDE ONLY, BAD FUSE. POWER ON BOTH SIDES, GOOD FUSE. POWER ON NEITHER SIDE , MAY BE SPARE FUSE[S]. THERE COULD BE A PROBLEM WITH THE FACTORY SECURITY SYSTEM. NOT TOO LIKELY.

06 HHR - battery died, recharged..now no power steering???

In the under hood fuse block you have to locate the power steering fuse and replace the blown fuse. The next time you jump the vehicle make sure and do not hook up the positive cable to the terminal under the fuse block.Use the one under the red cap by the fuse block. Also make sure the radio and accessories are all turned off before jumping the vehicle.Watch out for the cooling fans cause they could come on at anytime.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Radio/dvd/cd not working since battery died

alot of newer cars have an anti theft system for the radio and when you lose power you have to enter a code into the radio so you may have to call the dealership to get it

Radio not working

If you have recently changed the battery or lost power for any reason your radio may require an anti theft code, check your manual to see if this even applies to your vehicle. You may be able to find code behind the glove box in some cases. Or look up your vehicle online to see if any codes are posted. If the clock is working you have power.
