Do you have rear window tinting?( the plastic sheet type ) If so,check that the edges over the demister tapes have not curled up pulling the tapes off the window and diconnecting them. If they need repair, a small bottle of tape repair solution should be available from a spare parts retailer.

SOURCE: demister fan not working checked fuses all ok is

i got 2.3 microbus 2000 model ,the fan is not working , i have checked the fuse and the relays are fine

rear defroster?
scratches?
in the fuse/relay box. is my guess.
on some cars its an option, needs fuse, relay and grid, and harness upgrade. the FSM Covers this fully, why not get one.
ive added the missing pieces to may a car, that are 1/2 installed, new.

How to fix rear demister

check fuses FIRST

this is easy, if you have a voltmeter. got one, from walfart for $10 bucks?
the rear defrost grid is dead.
so does it have 12vdc end to end, on those grid contracts.
Yes, then the grid is bad.
no,then the relay that feeds it is dead.
if the relay id dead then check the fuses, first, do this first any way
the Volt meter will not lie to you, it will show if power reaches
and outputs from the RELAY.
it will even show the switch is working.

my first test above, cuts the problem in half in under 2 minutes.
if unsure, ask.

my guess, is the rear window , defog/defroster heater is dead.
right.?
this is easy , is there 12vdc across the heater element.
Yes the the grid is cut. open. damaged
NO? then the relay or switch up front or fuse is bad.
there i cut the problem in 1/2 for you.

demister? ah rear defogger (glass heater), (thanks wiki)
it's also and option.

what car, what year. all are diffreent.
pre 96 is here. (my work)
21 is just to right of dash dimmer pot. 46

Rear defogger not working fuse is ok but switch does not light up on a 1993 caprice

Check operation of the control relay for the rear defogger.
Check all wiring/cable connections on the demister circuit for integrity.
(The demister draws a heavy current, which can cause fatigue/overheating of spade type connections).

Check rear demister control relay operation,
Check for presence of 12V power (and ground connection) at rear window heater connection.

Check continuity of the rear window heating element.
