After I changed the timing belt and started the car the idle is very high and takes a few seconds to return to normal when you give it some gas. whenever I take the breather off the idle drops and the car runs very rough.

Hi , my engine start and then stops after 5 seconds and it is not the relay of the pump for gas or ecu

I suggest disconnecting the mass airflow sensor and see if the car idles. If the car starts then you have a bad sensor. The next step would be to inspect data on scantool and look for scewed coolant sensor reading . coolant sensor readings should not fluctuat. Good luck

where ever you had the belt change, take it back, and tell them they didn't leave it right, because it seems the timing is off. this happens when the timing belt is changed and not put properly. even if its just one tooth off, it can cause this problem. and for future transmissionfluid changes, the transmission should never be flushed as it can damage important components within the transmission. but like i said, have the timing belt refitted, because this is going to keep going on if its not fixed. hope this helps, goodluck

Check the throttle plates and idle speed control motor make sure there both clean.

Also check manifold vacuum at idle the best you can hold an idle. I have run into timing belt being one tooth off and engine still ran fine. But the vacuum was low that's how I could tell the belt was a tooth off.

Just changed timing belt and water pump car starts fine but has poor acceleration.does anyone know why?

is the timing back to the factory setup? sometimes if the timing is still off from what it should be, then it can cause problems like poor acceleration or running at high idle.

Low idle speed problem!

You probably disturbed the timing between the crankshaft and the camshaft if you loosened the timing belt.
