Car won't start after putting in gas

The past two times I have put gas in my car, it takes me several tries to start up the engine. The check engine light turns on and my car shakes. The light ends up turning off once the car starts. We heard that it may be my fuel pump. What would the labor and parts be for this vehicle?

This is a CLASSIC symptom of an evaporative emissions issue. GM has had tons of issues with this system. Don't even think about fuel pump at this point. Read this post on how EVAP works.

Then read this post on service bulletins GM has issued on the EVAP system

SOURCE: I have a cadallic escadale. It will turn over but wont start.

The fuel pressure should be 60 to 65psi in your system with the engine not running and fuel line primed, (ignition key's to the run position). Once engine is running the fuel pressure should drop by 5psi, change the fuel filter and recheck the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. it's known for the fuel pump to fail when the gas tank runs low or out of gas, the pump will end up burning it self out since the gas is what keeps the electric fuel pump cooled. The other thing to is putting gas through the top of the throttle body to start the engine on the SEFI is a NO NO, well a BIG NO NO. it's been know for the gas in the intake to catch fire and burn up the poppet valve in the injection system causing the replacement of the fuel injection system. Keep me posted and good luck, be gald to help you get your truck running again for the july 4th. OH and it was not mentioned but did the fuel filter get replaced???

SOURCE: 1999 Cadillac Deville- Won't start!

First, obviously, put gas back in the tank.

Check the fuel pump fuse, (20 amp yellow fuse in the lower left corner of the group). If that is not blown, turn the key on and pound hard on the bottom of the fuel tank. The fuel lubricates the fuel pump, once it runs dry, the pump can lock up. Once the pump is immersed in fuel again, a sharp jolt will unstick it and let it pump up to pressure again. If it locks up for too long, the pump will burn out and need replaced.

We found this out by accident, got mad and pounded on the bottom of the tank and the pump jumped to life.

Car won't stay started

check air filter to see if it is clogged. if it isn't check your fuel filters. you have one on the fire wall and one underneath the car on the driver side connecting the engine to the gas tank. open your truck, uncover the inside right fender panel, push the button on the switch and release the button. the button should pop out. the button has wires going to it. it is attached to the well wall under the cover you removed. try to start your car several timestil it will not even try to start. this release the gas pressure in your gas line. now you can replace both filters. after you replaced both gas filters, push the button in to reset it. try to start your engine, pump the gas pettle several times while you are cranking the engine. this will put gas pressure back in your gas line and into your engine. the gas filters should be changed according to manufacture time requirements. call ford parts department and ask how often the gas filters should be changed. any other information can be obtained at any auto parts company. try this first and hope it's not your fuel pump. your fuel pump is inside the gas tank. my fuel pump part caused $300. i recommend you buy it from ford. you don't want any gas leaks and ford will match it up if you need it.

Car wont start after I ran out of gas

Take off the smaller wire off the starter motor. Put the key in the start position and hold it there for a few seconds. Listen for the fuel pump running. If you hear it running then it feels like it stopped, then let go of the key and reinstall that wire on the starter motor. It should start.

1997 Saab 900 SE Turbo. Problem repeats. Car is off the road. Had started up just fine, several days in a row, now it turns over just fine but does not start. Can hear the fuel pump pressurize. HAd done...

start with the basics: an engine with no internal problems (like timing belt broke, or valve train not timed) needs fuel and spark to start.Since your getting fuel up to the fuel rail to feed the injectors, lets assume for the moment that the injectors are working to put gas into the cyllinder (You coud check that by pulling a plug or two out and see if they are wet or smell of gas.) Then check for spark (Hold the metal tip of plug wire 1/4 inch from a metal bolt or ground on the engine. Careful you don't get a shock-you can also buy a spark checker for a few bucks. just put the plug wire on it and ground it with the clip. Then you won't get a shock.) If you see that it is getting spark, then you may need an expert diagnosis for why it won't run. If you do not detect any spark (might want to try more than one plug wire) then you need to diagnose your ignition. If your car has a distributor, take off the cap and check inside for a cracked dist. cap or bad or worn rotor. You may also have a bad ignition coil or ignition module (expensive, but not as expensive as a bad engine control computer. Distributorless ignition? Again, may be a bad coil, coil pack, or ignition module. good luck, i'm about out of suggestions.

I ran my 2006 chevy uplander out of gas now it wont start even using starter fluid

after putting some gas in your tank, step on the gas pedal repeatedly (step to it fully), then while pressing, start your car. the fuel was completely drained from your system thus there are no fuel to burn in able for your car to start.

pressing the gas pedal repeatedly (around 10 times will do) will put some fuel in your combustion chamber, so the car will now have something to burn if you will start the car

2002 mustang the motor turns over and it gets gas but it wont run gas had water and we empty it and put new gas but it want run

Fuel system may be contaminated. Even if you drain tank it will have water in the injectors. Take a can of starting fluid, have some one turn over engine. Spray a small amount in throttle body. IF engine starts suspect water still in injectors. You may have to repeat several times to clear out. ALSO there is a small valve on fuel line. IT is where you would hook a fuel pressure gauge. YOU can bleed the water out at that point. You can open valve and turn key on and off several times, place a rag over check valve as fuel will spray out! Close valve try and start car

I have a 2004 Chrysler Concorde Limited with a 3.5L engine - The car shut off on me as I was driving at 60mph. I coasted to a stop, put the car in park and it started right up. This has happened several...

I had the same issue that has evolved into the car starting and idling for 2-3 seconds then stalling. After doing this five times it won't turn over at all. All the dash lights are on but no turn over. After the car sits for appoximately 15-30 minutes, it starts and runs fine for 3-4 weeks then does it again. I was told this is due to the camshaft and crank position sensors needing replaced.

Have trouble starting car from time to time

MAYBE YOUR FUEL LINE AND FUEL FILTER, SOUNDS LIKE THE GASOLINE WON’T GO THROUGH, YOU CAN START THE CAR, PUT IT INTO PARK AND PUSH THE GAS PADAL SEVERAL TIMES, SOMETIMES PUSH THE DIRT OUT, OTHERWISE PROBABLY YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER. TRY IT.
