Hello,
When I first purchased the car in late 2007, it had a slight sputtering at low RPMs when starting from a stop.
Summer 2008 the problem got a bit worse and the check engine light came on, so I took it in to my mechanic and he changed the intake valve seal (I think?) as it seemed to be leaking oil. I also got an oil change and new filter in July 2008.
In the fall, after putting nearly 3 litres of oil in (as it kept disappearing, with no spots on the driveway or splashes on the motor, no smell and no smoke from the exhaust), we scanned it and it came up with codes PO133, PO303, P0301 and P0300. We changed the O2 sensor 1 and replaced the plugs and wires. It ran fine for the next couple of months.
Then in about February 2009 (just recently) the sputtering got WAY worse, to the point where it's lasting nearly 30 seconds when starting from a stop or very slow. When this happens, the ENGINE light flashes.
It also misfires when idling, in all gears (P, D, N, etc.). We took out the spark plugs and they were rusty/corroded but not blackened, so we put new ones in and now it's running a little better. We scanned it right after the new plugs (today) and it only gave us the codes for misfire cylinder 1 and O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 slow response. I have no idea what's going on and was considering attempting to change the coils, but I've read a few forums where others have had this issue and that hasn't resolved the problem.
Please help before I wrap this thing around a tree!
HI first off the O2 slow resp code is an exhaust leak and not the O2 sensors itself. Slow resp codes is due to to the O2 reading 2 much oxygen or to little exhaust caused by a leak. Now on to the more important. first thing you should do is go buy a can of starter fluid or 2+2 gum cutter and spray it near the injector number one if the intake gasket is or the injector is leaking the car will sputter than run ok for about a second and then start miss fireing again. Dont buy a coil yet. Try this. get a plastic spray bottle and fill it with alittle luquid soap and the rest water. spray the coil pack and look and listen if you hear a clicking noise or a a blue sparking arking off of the coil, also do tis with a your spark plug wires. One last thing if your spark plugs are not ngk thay are wrong and that also maybe part of your problem.

P0036 - Heated Oxygen
Sensor (HO2S) Heater Control Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2.
The O2 will not
cause a miss, but the miss can cause an O2 code. The O2 heater code you are
getting is most likely just a bad O2, or possibly a bad fuse or even corrosion
on the fuse terminals. ------------------ P0147 Heated Oxygen
Sensor (HO2S) Heater Performance Bank 1 Sensor 3 ----------------------------- PO300 P0301 PO303 PO305
is random misfire codes. Cylinder number 1,3 and 5 needs to be checked. -------------- P2107- Throttle

I believe that this is the oxygen sensor at the
rear of the catalytic converter. It's not the sensor itself, it's the heater
circuit, which just needs power, although it can be set if the sensor itself
isn't working instead of the "right" one, P0146 or another HO2S
performance code. The heater circuits are just power and won't cause the
sensors to interact.

Excellent. I shall try both of your suggestions.
