My 1992 dodge dakota 4x4 5.2ltr truck starts only if you hld down gas pedal. It is hard starting and then when it does finally it dies if u push on pedal. It smells like alot of gas up bye motor. I have replaced the crankshaft position sensor, cap and rotor, ecu(computer), coil, throttle position sensor, checked wiring harniess for any corrosion, There was some at splice under fuse box. Pressure checked fuel pump. Checked relays. It cranks good but wont fire well at all. PLEASE HELP thanks
I had similar issues, wind up be being fuel filter.
I would spend the money and put it on a good computer and see what the print out says instead of guessing
Sounds like you have some injector problems or the fuel pressure regulator. If the check engine light is not on, I would look for something allowing extra fuel into the engine.

Have you checked base fuel pressure with a gauge ?
Code 42 is a problem with the fuel pump relay or ASD relay circuit.
