My 1992 Mercedes failed Air Care. It has high CO and HC. When I start the car, there is a faulty smell from the engine and there is condensation. What could be the causes?
Have the fault codes read. Replace faulty items. Use only genuine items as replacement as non-genuine are not always compatible with the OEM fitted CPU units. This results in the fault codes not cancelling out

no if the fuel pump is failing it wont start. what about fuel filter ? what you can do is find a shop with a scope and they can check the fuel pump on it and look at the wave pattern and can tell you good or bad. but when it happens and you cant hear it it is time to check it properly before it leaves you stranded.

if its gas its just from the engine shooting fuel in and not useing it if oil try doing a compresssion test that will tell you alot

You have to check ur idle speed controller, that is located at the back of battery protected by a plstic shield, remove the shield and remove a small controller located next to the computer compartment and check the fuse, the problem wd b solved by replacing the fuse otherwise u will have to replace the idle speed controller, if this will not fix the problem, ur computer has to be reset by company, hope this will fix the problem
