98 Honda civic cx over heating when stopped in
Unplug the fan on sensor. It should have one green wire and one black wire. Use a paper clip and jump the two wires. Turn the key to the run position, the engine does not need to be running. Does the fan come on? If not check the green wire for 12 volts and the black wire for ground. If there is no ground than run a new ground wire. If the is no power check the heater/air conditioning fuse in the under dash fuse block. If there is power and ground make sure both the cooling fan fuses are good and both the cooling fan relays are good. I’m happy to assist further over the phone at

Ticking sound from engine compartment
From what you're saying, it sounds like the lifters are tapping, almost like a clicking if i'm correct. Go to Advance Auto Parts, and buy some Seafoam in a can, you can pour some directly into your oil, and the noise should sieze. Also pour some in your gas, it really helps the engine. If you ask the cashier, they will take you right to it.

Most repairs are covered by AT LEAST A 90 DAY WARRANTY. Get that car back in there and tell them it's been having issues since you took it back from them. Ask them what they are prepared to do for you before you get legal help. That should get the ball rolling in the right direction.

Renew engine thermostat.

Wiring and connections at TPS may be corroded or signal ground may be bad . Did you test it while running also to see how the engine reacts?
