Locked keys in 1989 ford tempo. unable to get unlocked with slimjim

It's internal. Whatever the problem is, it's gonna require you to take the door panel off and examine. I suspect worn bushings and/or bent linkage. Someone may have tried to "jimmy" your door open with a slim jim and messed something up.

Get door stop, and pry the window fram back from the car. When you have it about 2 and a half inches open, take a metal/wooden rod and use it to open the handle. Works great, just be careful not to go too far.

try replacing the ignition barrel sounds like the ignition swith is goosed.

SOURCE: How to replace belt tensioner on a 1989 Ford

Release tension on the belt. Remove the belt from the pulley, remove the belt tensioner, install new belt tensioned w/lock-tite on mounting bolt, and torquing bolt to specified measurement. Reinstall belt and viola.

You can try the police who sometimes will use a "SlimJim" to open the door. You can try the dealer and get the Vin# off the windshield plate for a duplicate key. Or you can try a locksmith (Some auto insurance will cover) who will come out with a box of keys to unlock the door.

My key will not lock or unlock the driver side door anymore
You need to take off the interior door panel. It has either a rod that attaches to the lock or a striker that directly hits the lock mechanism.

You will see if you need to reattach a part or buy new parts when you see it. It is possible that someone used a "SlimJim" and derailed the lock rod, which may be covered by attempted theft damage. In that case a body shop could verify it and do a claim for you.
