D and N light start blinking with a jeark when the car is in motion with load on engine

Hi there,

Your Mitsubishi's transmission is fully electronic and the good news is, it is monitored by the on-board diagnostic (OBD) computer.

When the OBD computer detects an abnormality (or fault condition) related to the transmission, the computer will trigger the "fault" indicator (in this case, a flashing "N" light).

Once this occurs, the OBD computer will store the appropriate diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) in its memory. Having these codes extracted by an approved Mitsubishi repair agent, will aid the technician in determining which electronic circuit (or component) within the transmission, requires attention.

It could be a simple matter of your transmission's fluid getting too hot (i.e. overheating). When this occurs, you should pull over and (while engine is still idling) remain stationary for 10mins, to allow the trans fluid to cool down.

At your soonest opportunity, you should have the trans fluid level (AND CONDITION) checked, as I suspect the fluid has burnt from overheating and is no longer lubricating the transmission efficiently. Although the Manufacturer states changing trans fluid every 90,000km, it is now common knowledge that changing more frequently (i.e. every 30 - 50,000km) will prolong the life of modern transmissions.

Recommend you have the OBD codes read by your local Mitsubishi Agent, to determine what is causing the current problem.

Note: you could risk causing further damage by driving your vehicle in its current condition.
