I hear the fuel pump come on while cranking. the #2 coil is not firing. other 3 coils ok, swapped #2 with known good hole and it fires. may be a problem in circuit?
further diagnostics. all the plugs check out ok. all the coils check out ok. all the injectors are getting pulse. #2 coil does not get pulse. what do you think? i dont have an electrical schematic. i think the comuter may be shot. does anyone have an idea?further diagnostics. all the plugs check out ok. all the coils check out ok. all the injectors are getting pulse. #2 coil does not get pulse. what do you think? i dont have an electrical schematic. i think the comuter may be shot. does anyone have an idea?
you are not getting it! compression has nothing to do with the problem. There is no pulse signal to the #2 coil. maybe i need to replace the muffler bearings?you are not getting it! compression has nothing to do with the problem. Have you seen any tiny unicorns running around in the engine compartment, maybe poking holes in hoses, filters, etc.? Thats what my mechanic said happened on a similar problem with my A4......... Only costs $6,000 to fix it........ I will get the guys number

Assuming your firing order at the plugs is still correct 1, 3, 4, 2, - 1 being the cylinder nearest the belts and pulleys, a no spark at the coil pack is the next thing to check. Check the voltage supply to the coil is OK before you replace it. If the coil isn't getting voltage it may not be the coil causing the issue.
If your title says 97 then your car is a 97. To answer your other question , don't take a chance jumping anything, you could fry your computer. Get hold of a scanner tool and use it to find your problem. Your computer will tell you the exact problem, which I am guesting is your crank shaft sensor. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.
Fuel, spark and compression. Needs at least 30 psi to run at all, check for spark ,at the coil first. Pull the coil wire out so it has like a 1/4 of an inch gap from the coil ,either watch or listen for the spark,it's way hot ,60,000 volts or so,don't touch it,you can hear it or see it. If there is nothing, bad news ,could be the spendy control module.
If it is ok ,move on to the cap,do the same thing for any plug wire.if there is nothing,it's in the distrubitor,
Probably the crank sensor, do you hear the fuel pump 'buzz' when you turn on the key (not cranking the engine, just key on)? If you do hear the fuel pump (only lasts about 2 seconds), it may be the ignition module, otherwise it is probably the crank sensor.
We will star a list of what is good.and what controls spark
1. crank sensor .you done it
2.ignition control module. located on the center of bulkhead, behind intake air hose
3.coils. you tested it.
4.ECM located under passenger side foot well
ECM no you got fuel,so lets leave it out
cranksensor okay you replaced it
ICM ignition control moduel.
no spark you cover everthing. has to be a loose or no contact connection somewhere, you covered it all.you might want to tap on the ecm., or check the fuse for power to junction the ones in the hood area those can blow and not give power to ignition system
I think you've identified your own problem. In your description of the problem, you indicate "no fuel pressure on rail".....
First things first, try replacing the fuel filter. If this doesn't do the trick, make sure the fuel pump is actually pumping (you indicated that you hot wired it with a 12 volt DC supply and it ran). Running is one thing....pumping fuel another. To properly identify issue you need to know the cranking fuel pump pressure. If you can get it to start it would also be a very good idea to check out the fuel pressure regulator.
When you turn the key to the "ON" position (don't crank it, just to to the position where it would run) do you hear a few seconds worth of pump motor activity?
If it tried to start when you introduced fuel into the breather, then I think it's safe to say you have some sort of fuel delivery issue.
well if spark quits fuel usaly will to computer will do this to stop cadilac converter from filling with fuel!and causeing a fire saftey feature!!!!okay disconect battery wait a couple of minutes reconect! turn key on postion do not start or crank!off then on until you hear a GRRRRunt that is your fuel pump that is what you should hear turn your head to the right towards back seet and once you hear it that means pump is good then crank it then spark should quit if the coil packs a r bad then you have your problem if so test for spark also if you have eng light on cut the case hook up obd 2 scan find the fault and fix THIS IS WHAT I WOULD DO CHEERS!
