Factory XM Unit Location

I just purchased the SIRIUS unit to replace the factory XM unit to work with the Factory radio and controls, however, I cannot locate where the XM unit is to switch it out. I read somewhere that it is under the rear shelf, but how do you get to it? Does anyone know?

Hi GM Elec! Thank you so much! The dealer told us that it was located under the rear shelf, but didnt tell us how to get under there. We have an appointment with an installer shop that we were referred to by our Cadillac dealer. I will give them the directions that you gave me just in case. There is nothing wrong with the existing XM unit, we have SIRIUS subscription and now that they came out with the unit to switch and utilize the factory radio, antenna, and controls, we want to have it installed. I will write back and let you know once it has been done. Thanks again!

Hi Xit.....The factory XM module is in fact located under the rear shelf trim panel. You will have to remove the rear seat cushion, just pull up on the front of the cushion about 12 inches in from left and right corners. Remove the cushion from the car. Open the trunk and remove nuts located on the seat back just under rear shelf metal. Back inside the rear seat area, remove the seat belt buckle bolts located inboard of right and left lower corners of the seat back. Remove the seat back. You will now be able to see the (2) plastic fir tree pins that hold the shelf panel trim in place. Remove the pins.
Now comes the hard part, remove the right and left quarter sail interior trim panels ( Caution: roof rail air bag located behind right and left panels) the fasteners are located behind the "SIR" plastic buttons in the sail panel trim.
All in all, unless you have the proper tools and take the proper precautions, you might want to take your Cadillac to your local dealer.
Buy the way, is there something wrong with your factory XM module?
Let me know, regards.

How can I get our 2011 Suzuki Kizashi to accept a USB cable to enable our portable XM radio unit to work? It currently states: "Not Supported" each time a usb is hooked up to the portable XM unit. (On

I believe the USB socket your Subaru is only a charging port and does not really hook to the radio. This would require more than I know how to do, unless you can enable bluetooth on the car and your XM will work that way.

Can you remove the factory stereo with the computer in it without it messing anything up?

Depends on year, make and model. I changed mine in my 03 Tahoe but had to rewrite the Sirius, nav, xm, and voice control box. Took me a bit but real happy with how it turned out. Changing radios is not like it used to be so I advise you go to a decent radio shop

Hummer radio wont work

If you have swapped out your old factory radio with another factory radio from a different unit, it will not work. It is coded to the VIN#, Just to replace a radio at the dealer you must link up and download the current configuration from the old unit using the GM TECH-II, then remove the old unit and install the new one, upload the old config files to the new unit and hope it works. Sometimes it doesn't and you have to keep swapping units back and forth to download and upload and eventually maybe getting a successful upload. If all your doing is replacing the factory unit with another factory unit, it will work if you take it to a dealer and they do the process explained above. Just don't throw out your old radio, they will need it because all of your old config files are still in it!
I hope this info helps!~subyguru~

I want to disable XM radio and OnStar on my 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix. Can I remove the fuse(s) for each Unit without harming my vehicle? Can I disconnect any wiring harnesses? Where do I find each Units...

I have disabled factory xm/onstar units from many cars with no issue. i believe the onstar/xm units are both located in the trunk of you car behind the carpet (usually labeled accordingly). If you can find the fuse dedicated to the unit you can pull that. I have found the fuse is sometimes located on the unit. If you cant find the units then you can pull out the radio and unplug them from the back (more often than not it will be the smallest harness coming out the back). A quick way to test... have your car on and pull one plug at a time... make sure, once you have located it, test you audio (some harnesses are for amplified audio systems). The only neg. effect i have seen (rarely) has been the loss of the door chime.

99 olds Intrigue factory CD player problem

I am not sure about repairing the unit. Do you have a CD cleaner?
You might check with a reputable auto electronics shop, one that specializes in car audio. They may have an adapter that will allow an aftermarket radio to be controlled from the steering wheel. Rosen makes a nice am/fm/cd/dvd navigation unit that also has XM and iPod inputs. The hard part will be to find supporting interfaces and wiring harnesses to fit a 99.
