Capacitor on an alternator for an 89 chevy silverado

something is shorting, make sure your hood is not touching positve side of battery, or battery is secured and not moving around and touching something

An oil temperature sensor? Didn't know an '89 would have such a sensor, but that is the code.

Sounds like its a bad voltage regulator that will cause it to over charge.

have your alternator checked. your chevy is probably running on the battery which is probably only receiving a particle charge from the alternator. I had a chevy did the same thing when ever the alternator was going out.

well your voltage regulator is inside your alternator. im not sure how much amps you are talking about 12 to 14 is normal

Would suspect chaffed wire insulation grounding out possibly wiring harness running under the alternator bracket.
