1995 Old Silhouette. Temp gauge shoots to high after about 2 miles, then back to regular levels. Low coolant light is on, but overflow tank is full. No visible leaks. New head gasket, water pump, and thermostat within the past 2 years. Also, the bleeder screw head near the water pump is broken off. Any other suggestions on a fix, and is there another way to bleed the line near the pump?

The heater core could be clogged. If your antifreeze is orange , then it is Dexcool antifreeze which causes slime and sludge to build up in the cooling system. It can clog a heater core. My suggestion would be to drain and flush the entire cooling system with Prestone Super Flush. Put in a new thermostat while your at it. Refill the cooling system with a green antifreeze that is labeled compatible with aluminum engine parts and radiators.Do Not refill with Dexcool antifreeze.

you either have a intake leak or head gasket. get a pressure test and then youll find the leak......like i did. $800 later. and start looking for another car......

One guess is there is air in the cooling system. The air pockets will cause temporary overheating (fluctuating guage).
It sounds like a bad head gasket is creating these air pockets.

when engine is cold remove radiator cap and check coolant level, sounds like it is really low and has an air pocket in it.
