I have a 2000 Mitsu. Galant. Trouble codes p0335 and p0340 for cam and crank sensors.Are there any common problems?

    I just purchased a 2001 Mits. Montero from a dealership 9 days ago and now I have this same problem. P0335 - crankshaft position sensor and P0340 - camshaft position sensor.

Danny I had those same two codes along with a P0420 catalyst efficiency, right side bank 1 code. I just picked up my car from the dealership about 30 minutes ago. $850 later they had to replace the crank shaft position sensor because they found the crank shaft position sensor wire was rubbing against the power steering pump pulley and wore a hole in the wires causing it to short out and make the car cut off. While they are in there if you need to have the timing belt replaced have them do that too, you save almost $ 300 bucks and its like getting one for $100 and some change. Hope this helps.

why ask a clerk? that??
J18 engine has 2 key sensors,
CKP behind the flywheel (aaahhhcraaappppp)
and
CMP on rear of cam,
so what is 340,well the service manual is clear
why not ask it , NOT/clerks.
340 is CAM, or CMP sensor.

What does these codes mean p0129 p0340 p0335 p0122. We unpluged the mass air flow sensor while the truck was running and there was no change in the motor
MAF, TPS,Crank, and Cam sensors all Low readings or out of range. Check fuses first. Actually pull them out and look at them. This does two things. First you know they're good and (second) it also makes good contact putting them back in. I'm surprised your truck runs. It sounds like problem anyway. After that I would check the plugs on these and the ECM. for corrosion. White and light green in color.

The diagnostic test shows no signal from camshaft sensor. I checked all the wires for breaks, and I replaced the camshaft sensor code (0340). The car turns over good, but it will not start. Any ideas as to...
Cam sensor? or Crank sensor? I know that the generic definition of DTC P0340 is "No cam signal at PCM" however, a crank sensor can also be the cause of this code.

A cam sensor normally will not cause a no-start. I can cause a long crank time before starting. The cam sensor signal is only used to sync the fuel injectors. If there is no cam sensor signal the computer will start firing all of the injectors on every revolution of the crankshaft to get the engine running. A crank sensor, however, will cause a no-start condition because it is used to control spark. If there is no crank signal there is no spark...period.

Part of the troubleshooting chart for DTC P0340 on your vehicle includes inspection of the crank sensor and checking for the crank sensor signal at the Powertrain Control Module.

Crankshaft Position Sensor Error P0335 recurred after r&r
In the kit there are two sensor that look identical. The one for the crankshaft has a white paint mark on it near the bolt hole. Make sure that it is in the right location.

2002 Mits Galant has a hard time to start
Your P0340 is a different problem from your P0303, but they may be related.

Since the code P0340 indicates that there is something wrong with your cam speed sensor, your misfiring in cyl3 may be caused by this.

This points to addressing the P0340 error before the P0303 since it could be contributing to the 303 in the first place. Look at your cam speed sensor in cyl3 and maybe this would solve both problems at once.
