My range rover has warning light saying 'air suspension inactive.' In owner's manual, it says to bring the vehicle in when that message alternates with 'max 45 mph'. However, my range rover does not have the alternating message. I was wondering if I need to bring it in or if there is something I can do to fix it.

My 2004 range rover also displays Air Suspension Inactive on the dash and and is at the low level. With the car being turn off, I took off and re-installed the Air Suspension fues located inside the glove box under the CD changer box and the light went off when I turned the car back on, but the air suspension did not work, it still stayed at the low level. I took it in to the dealer to get check and they charged me $120 to tell me that the Air Suspension ECU is shorted out and needs replacement and wanted $1,200 to fix. I bought the new Air Suspension ECU unit thru my friend who has a body shop becasue he gets a discount on parts and it cost me $580.00 but now I need to find out where the Air Suspension ECU is located on the car so that I can change it out myself, does anyone know where it is located? You can try turning the ignition on and off , only to position two ond off with out starting , between 20 - 30 times this sometimes confuses modules and causes them to clear faults , if not i would recomend getting it plugged in , if vehicle is not in warranty go to landrover specialist , much cheaper!!!!!
The MKIII EAS has two different fail safe conditions. The first is when the suspension is locked out at a normal ride height. In this situation, the EAS computer can still operate the suspension. If the fault is repaired it will usually self clear.
The second is where the suspension is locked on the bump stops. In this situation the EAS computer has detected a major fault. In this condition, the fault condition will not self clear and must be reset with an external diagnostic tool.

check that you are not in 4 x 4 settings on hard surface as that loads up the transmission making it work harder
that it turn can over heat the transmission oil
check for correct oil level in transmission as too much oil or not enough will also heat oil
take it to an accredited service center that has experience on your make of vehicle for a diagnosis of all problems

One owner reports "Whenever my RRS is lowered to "access" level a suspension system fault message apprears.". Another reports " Had the RRS back less than 2 hours and another "suspension fault." Also kept receiving messages that the vehicle is raising slowly and vehicle will raise when system cools. Couldn't even drive because it wouldn't raise out of access mode. Anyway, back to the dealer. Picked the RRS up again today-dealer said the EAS compressor was faulty and replaced it. So far everything is ok." Overall, most of the problems seem to be related to bad suspension height sensors or bad compressors. Angus Wade of the Czech Republic had his suspension light come on when in Germany; it started yellow and then red, then disappeared when he stopped and restarted the engine -- and has not happened since. His dealer said they have seen this a bit.
Weak Compressor: An official Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) LS-204-004 addresses "ELECTRONIC AIR SUSPENSION (EAS) WARNING MESSAGE AND LAMP ILLUMINATION". This deals with the warning message "Suspension Fault - Normal Height Only" message appearing with the Air Suspension Warning Lamp on. Computer diagnosis shows pressure increasing too slowly or unable to pressurize, with no air leaks. The usual problem is the compressor exhaust valve sticking, causing an internal air leak when the compressor is active. The bulletin recommends renewing the air compressor (RQG500090 is the latest specification air compressor with a stronger exhaust valve return spring)and installing and updating the air suspension control module software using WDS disc 13 or later.

His suspension Fault message and Suspension Warning Light (Amber) came on after 5 days of ownership. 1. The automatic suspension system
on a Land Rover must be placed in a service mode (High Lock) prior to
raising the vehicle on a frame-contact hoist. This can only be
accomplished by using a Land Rover Test Book Scan tool or an
aftermarket equivalent.
2. If the suspension is allowed to hang freely at maximum extension, the suspension controller will enter a fault lockout mode and disable the compressor and height sensors
3. In addition, the suspension system will vent the suspension in an attempt to bring the vehicle to a correct ride height.
4. Since the suspension
is hanging free at maximum extension, all the air will be vented,
causing the vehicle to sit at maximum low when taken off the
frame-contact hoist. A Land Rover Test Book Scan Tool or an equivalent
is required to reset the suspension once it has entered the lockout mode.
good chance broken line going to that cylinder. it is still pushing air but just not making it all the way there look at the bleeder valve or the fill valve get spray bottle with soapy water spray suspension in the area of the valve look for bubbles.
check owner manualis ha a swich i can remember togod but some of them work by it self when you put the gear working. star the car open the hood close to the front yopu have to hear like a little compresor that means this device is working. you remember someone jack it up the truck and forgot to shut of the swich????
The EAS can have many different faults that will give the same warning. I have had several air susp problems. First try to disconnect the battery, wait several minutes reconnect then drive car making at least on full circle. If lights remain, air pump (under spare tire ) can be checked, also valve under a cover behind right front wheel, other than these areas, the Testbook diagnostic at dealer will determine if any other parts are source of problem. Unfortunately, with the complexity of the system many other parts Height sensors, etc, etc can also cause the error message. Good Luck.
Air Suspension Inactive usually means there is a problem with the Air Suspension. However, it will also come up when alternator or battery voltage is low, or when you reset (disconnect and then connect) the battery. To reset it manually: while in P(ark), turn steering wheel all the way left, hold few seconds, and then all the way right, hold few seconds. All the warning lights will go out. Most common failure is the passenger front air strut, since batteries are prone to leaking acid, it leaks right on top of the rubber airbag and burns through it. Dealer willcharge you one hour to diagnose, or you can easily diagnose this by looking at the ride height of each particular corner of the truck. If its sits low, or emits hissing sound when you park the truck, its leaking. If you keep driving with leaky air strut, you risk burning up the air compressor, as its working extra hard to compensate for the leak. Replacing the strut is easy 45min job even for a novice mechanic, and you can do it yourself. Strut can be found new for approx $750 online. If you are fed up with air suspension issues, there is a $700 kit that converts the truck to springs, and disables all of the air suspension. Look up Arnott Industires
