My 1996 Impala had the same problem. In the trunk there is a section of wires with one that has a terminal on it with two wires going in but not connected. Turn the key to the run position with the engine off. Stick a screwdriver in the terminal, the door locks should go up and down. Hit the unlock button on the key fob and the horn should beep if you did it correctly. I haven't tried it but many others have repeated this solution. Hope it helps.

There is only one fuse that mentions 'Locking', but also refers to the General Electrical Module (GEM). If you change the fob battery, you need to reprogram it to the vehicle. Or you could open any Transit around you. Lots of help below including resetting..
The fob needs to be reset. If this doesn't work, drop into a place that fits car alarms, or if you service at a dealership, they ought to do it for free.
This is part of the auto-locking mechanism that is available in most current vehicles. If you are in your vehicle and it 'self locks' you are not locked 'out'. The system detectswhether or not a key is in the ignition. Once OUT of the car, you will have to intentionally lock the doors, either using the fob, or key, or pressing the lock button prior to exiting.
Depending on the specification of your vehicle, the FOB generally serves one (or both) of the following functions:
1) Communicate with the vehicle's Keyless Entry system (operates central locking). 2) When inserted into the ignition, the transponder within the key will communicate with the vehicle's Body computer (BEM) to validate entry, before disengaging the immobilizer - allowing the vehicle to start.
When the key fob fails, you may lose functionality of the above systems.
Keyless entry failure - usually due to flat battery in the fob. Reprogramming of keyless entry can be done without dealership assistance.
Transponder/Immobilizer failure - this requires the key fob to be re-programmed by your local dealership.
door locks are controled by car security system - need the remote (key fob). Ifyou lost yours, may be able to get one from dealership. Will need to program for your vehicle.
The remote should be built into the key. If not the remote central locking would be after-market. After-market remote central locking is part of an anti theft device so the fob you get with the key's has two function's it opens the door and disables the imobliser. If it had a fob and it was'nt with the key's then the ignition would'nt work so the car would'nt start. So it dosent have remote locking. Before giving up check the dash and suround's for a small either green or red light which looks like it was installed after-market if their is one then it still may have remote locking but was disabled for some reason but although it is there unless you really need it don't bother with it because you will need to get it rewired then get a fob which will need to be programed. Hope this help's Cheer's
Hi steve, try the central locking fuse, fuse 63.its in a stupid place (thanks ford)its at the back of fuse panel.two bolts release the fuse board, turn it around and there it sits,20 amp fuse.replaced mine and its working great.hope this helps mate
To re programme your key if your fob has three buttons is as follows. Turn the ignition key in quick succession from off to ignition on 4 times. You should hear a chime to indicate programme mode. Quickly remove the key and press the lock button followed by the unlock button. Wait until you hear the chime again and see if the fob works. If it does not operate the central locking, see if you can open the tailgate with the fob, I guess you have a three button remote? If it doesn't, repeat the above but quicker!! it should programme quite easily. When you checked the fuse, did you take it out? I suggest you remove the fuse and wait 30 seconds and put back in, get someone in the car to see if any doors respond to you replaceing the fuse. recheck the fob operation and the key, this maybe the answer.
