All you need to do is slide the battery cover to the Open position, then open the battery cover to access the batteries. If it doesn't open easily you may have some corrosion on the batteries holding the cover closed.

Sorry to say but a lens error actually is a problem that you cannot fix at home. When a lens error occurs, the motors inside that make the lens retract and protract were some how damaged, usually caused if the lens try coming out when you have it in your pocket or against a surface so it cant fully come out. You will have to send the camera in for service and you can do that by calling 1-800-706-2534, option 1.
if it doesn't have a jack for a charger or a charger stand to sit it in then it will not be re-chargeable as such
you will have to remove the battery and check if it is an alkaline battery ( not re-chargeable ) or a rechargeable battery in which case you will need a battery charger for that type of battery
If that is the case get spares and have a fully charged one on hand to just swap over while the other is charging
If you went to support and downloads and did not locate a firmware update it is because there is none.
Check your troubleshooting section in your manual for guidance regarding this error code and your alternatives.

When the lens is smudged, please only clean it with fluid special for lenses. Never use normal glass cleaners, because lenses do have coatings that come of easy with normal house hold cleanres. If you already tried cleaning the lens that way, I think we have found what is wrong. Without the coating the lens can't give good pictures.
Sorry, we don't send e-mails. Only when you have the right tools and software to flash a camera from Casio, you could use firmware. You can't put in there firmware, when the camera is not 100% functional. Once the flashing of the new firmware starts, it can't be stopped, because it is writing new software that has no connection with the older software. And a part of the old with a part of the new software does not make one correct program. So NEVER try to solve a system error with a update. The system error must be repaired by a pro.
Assuming it finally goes off. The camera is busy saving the image to memory. You may try faster memory cards to shorten the wait time. You may also need to save all your images to your computer then re-format the card in the camera.
Remove the card and see if the pictures remain on the camera. If they do, then they are stored in camera memory. Make sure the memory lock on the card is in the proper position. Put the card back into your computer and delete the pictures. Then format the card, and try the card again. If the card is still locked, try a different memory card that has been formatted.
Format the card on you camera not the computer, that will delete everything if its still giving problems return to where you bought it for replacement.
