Have a Garmin Nuvi 1300 (about 9 mo. old). Over the past month I've experienced problems charging it in the car. I've tried several outlets in different vehicles and charged other items without any problem. Both the car charger cable and port on the Garmin have no visible signs of damage. The charger light does come on when plugged in. When held at certain awkward angles I can sometimes get my GPS to charge for a minute or two, but shortly after a message pops up that says external power source has been lost.

it should show "loading maps" try reset by holding down finger on bottom right hand corner of screen before you power up, and go to www.garmin.com for software update, if not contact supplier for fix/replacement

I've looked for free map upgrades for my Garmin and could not find anything. I did find a lifetime map upgrade deal for around $75. It allows you unlimited upgrades for as long as you own the GPS. Go to the garmin site and search NUMaps.

A Garmin Nuvi 1300 that won't start, freezes on 'loading maps,' or is acting erratically is symptomatic of having corrupt firmware.

To correct this, I recommend backing up your favorites, clearing all user data, and if it still is stuck, then updating your Nuvi firmware.

Follow these three steps to take to get your Garmin Nuvi 1300 running like new:

1. Back up your Favorites.
2. Perform a Hard Reset.
3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.
