Hi, sorry to bother you, but I am having a very similar problem with my monitor, it just goes black, although if I look very very close I can see that the image is there, its just to dark to see it, every time I press the source button and it gets to digital the image comes bright and normal, but a second later its dark again.
I have the same problem!! my Samsung SyncMaster 932GW only works for a second when you turn it on Then it fades to Black..
I got a new Dell and it works fine on the same tower. I really would like to knw how to fix this issue
I know I have a problem with the display. I need to know how to fix it. thanks for trying. any one else?I know I have a problem with the display. I need to know how to fix it. thanks for trying. any one else?
The only solution I have for the problem, although I don't consider it a real solution, so I won't add it as such... But I just keep pressing the source button plus any key until it stays lit... usually before it finally works it starts to flicker for a few seconds. The only solution I have for the problem, although I don't consider it a real solution, so I won't add it as such...

You cannot always tell if a capacitor is bad by looking at it. If it is bulging or leaking or has blown out, that would be obvious but, there are increases in resistance internally called ESR and there are dielectric leakages and that you cannot see. These failures require special equipment to detect.
Maybe the screen is just a faulty one. If you have a warranty for it, GET IT REPLACED. problem solved in my opinion. if you tried it on another computer it will be a problem with the monitor. take it in and get it checked out.
it is probably the power button itself, or there is something wrong with the power board inside the monitor, the capacitors are probably on their way out, in these monitors cheap capacitors are used and they seem to fail within 2-3 years, these can be replaced by a professional and would probably be cheaper than buying a new one. either way, if the picture on the monitor is OK, you could just switch it off at the socket or wait for it to go into power saving mode.
Sorry it is like your monitor needs service. Electrolytic condensators in power supply need to be changed. Give it to an electronic shop, it is a job for a specialist.
If pc not sending it to "sleep mode" or "power save" mode, then unit may need help of electronics technician to investigate the "internal switch-mode-power-supply" that may be going into "shutdown" mode after it detects a "fault condition" with itself or onother circuit.

Look for any bulging capacitors, instead of a flat top they will look "pregnant".
If you see any of those then replace them with capacitors of the same UF rating and the voltage needs to be either the same or higher.
If you dont see any bulging capacitors or burnt parts, then its got be the LCD at that point thats not staying on and the cost to replace the LCD is as much if not more then to just get another monitor.
If you can still faintly see data on your screen, it will be a faulty backlight in the panel most likely.
LCD panels have fluorescent tubes in them that provide the light needed to see the data. If one of these goes faulty, the circuit that drives it will turn off ALL the backlights, giving you a black screen. Note: a faulty circuit that drives the backlights will often give the same apparent fault. You will need to take the monitor in for repair.
