Check on the monitor OSD the input settings. I am assuming you're not running both inputs simultaneously some monitors detect that since it is an "either or situation" in rare circumstances it could be the cable as well. Samsung SyncMaster 226CW Owner Manual

I have the identical model with the same problem, I pulled it apart and the power supply/inverter board are one, and descovered the problem was in the inverter transformers, { 2 in all } because my monitor is 3 to 5 years old I felt replacing the whole board assembly would not justify the cost since something else could break down, I opted for a new monitor.

it is probably the power button itself, or there is something wrong with the power board inside the monitor, the capacitors are probably on their way out, in these monitors cheap capacitors are used and they seem to fail within 2-3 years, these can be replaced by a professional and would probably be cheaper than buying a new one. either way, if the picture on the monitor is OK, you could just switch it off at the socket or wait for it to go into power saving mode.

It is uncommon to have a faulty VGA input, although occasionally the pins get bent or broken on the cable. First check the cable.

Have you tried using a different source?

Some graphics cards/computers will only output DVI and VGA separatly and not at the same time. You may have to go into the display settings of your computer and change the output from DVI to VGA.

yes reove rear cover. look at power supply for crowned or leaking capacitors. desolder . take bad ones to electronics parts store, replace and good to go

Are you sure it is the lamp assmblies, not the problem in the inveter circuits or in the power supply?
Replacing lamp is not an easy job, some of them you will to completely disassemble the LCD panel to get to the lamp assemblies, not recommend for the beginner.

It may have dying power supply due to bad caps just like all other SAMNSUNG as shown in my pictures, that will be the first place to look.

I would check the DC filter caps in the power supply and voltages first.

If pc not sending it to "sleep mode" or "power save" mode, then unit may need help of electronics technician to investigate the "internal switch-mode-power-supply" that may be going into "shutdown" mode after it detects a "fault condition" with itself or onother circuit.

Try it on another PC first, check VGA cable, but more likely to be the monitor for monitor this old.

The connecting cable or the video card would be the first suspects. Try a different cable to connect the monitor first, if there is no change, the video card in the computer would be second to look at. Can simply connect a different monitor to your computer to troubleshoot this. If the testing monitor works, it will be the graphics card that is the issue.

Press the auto key of your monitor to get the best fitted resolution for your window, each monitor has a limited graphic capability of which it is designed. if the production is not ok consult your manufacturer.
