When you hook them up to the television make sure they are connected to the FIXED OUTPUT. Otherwise you will have to turn the tv up to send a signal to the speakers.

There may be a setting in the audio menu on the set to let you select Variable Output or Fixed Output. Again.. change it to FIXED.

Hope this helps!

No, that did not work, but as we have a satallite receiver, I found out that it works when the cables are in this receiver box AND that I have to punt the volume of the sound on this receiver on. This is in contradiction with instructions that told me to put the sound on mute!
Thanks anyhow for your energy to help me, regards Annemarie

Won't Show DVD Picture or Hear From Surround Sound Speakers

The lack of video in the DVD can be isolated to the DVD players output mode, if you are using the component video out on the dvd player then be sure to follow the componet out of Receiver to the tv component inputs, if you are using the HDMI from a DVD HDMI into RECEIVER HDMI then go to TV HDMI, you cannot mix component and HDMI on this model of AVR receiver and acheive results, in other words keep the COMPONENT to Component and HDMI to HDMI signal path, the results will be similiar quality audio and video UNLESS you are doing a blu-ray source which will result 1080P quality, all other video, HD results to 1080i, about the audio, if all 5.1 test tones are satifactory to speakers but on playback modes for DVD or HD tv signals all you are receiving is LR which is basically 2 channel (stereo) you need to enable a MULTI-CHANNEL capability input, this must be a option on the DVD Player Audio MENU output, be sure it is set for DOLBY DIGITAl 5.1 or DTS outputs, be sure to have the receivers digital input enabled if you are running optical cable or coaxial digital for the audio, you will be sending a multi-channel input to the receiver when the Receivers Faceplace LCD displays 5-6 speakers. If it shows only LR or two speakers it is not locking into a 5.1 audio input.

DVD from laptop to computer

MaionP:
you need to connect your TV to your laptop with the audio cable as well. A simple S video cable will only gives you video. You can buy a simply audio video cable and use the audio output from your laptop to your TV and keep on using the S video for video.
Or you can use simple external laptop speakers to gives you sound with your TV output.
Hope that helped!
Good luck!
