SOURCE: Restoring a T2958

how about just leaving the name the way it is (the default) and not changing it.. (don't worry about doing it at that moment... you can always change the name of your computer later when everything is installed later.

also

leave your computer unplugged from the network (internet) and try again. (make sure not use any spaces or odd characters.. I don't think it would allow you to either but just in case)

Ok,

first - You will delete everything on your harddrive with this method.

If possible- scan your disk for viruses.

get to a C prompt.

In most programs you will have an option to boot to C: or even C:>Windows
If you do not end up in C: you can get there by typing
c: and enter

MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN C:

-i.e. not the system drive

CHKDSK - enter

You have a large harddrive - this will take time.

We are checking to see if your hardrive is broken.

if the harddrive is ok

FORMAT YOUR DRIVE- this will take time.

Type FORMAT and hit enter

WHEN YOU DO THIS YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING!!!!!

Insert your system disk and follow the instructions provided by the manufacture

SOURCE: When I use my restore dvd, everything goes well

Very strange, when doing the system restore, make sure every single thing is plugged out of the back of your pc, only leave a keyboard and mouse, monitor and power . make sure the cd is ncie and clean and try again. but make sure every thing is plugged out

Wont run windows at all. Says: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You have a corrupt registry and it needs to be replaced.
Doing a System Restore will do this. Since you cannot run it from the hard drive, you will have to boot from a Windows DVD.
Here is the procedure

You did not specify which version of Windows you have so I just picked W7 as an example. If you need more specific instructions, you need to give more specific information.

When using the restore discs on my emachine w4682, restore freeze

In that case unfortunately, you are probably going to have to get a Windows DVD. Set the laptop to boot off DVD, and reformat and do a complete reinstall.

Tried to do a restore with restore disc that came with the comput

There seems to be a problem with the operating system that is being installed. This often happens if you use the restore disks that came from another computer.

Are you sure that you used the disks that came with that exact computer? Does it flash a blue screen right before restarting the cycle?

Try the restore over again and if the problem persists, you may have to either order new restore disks for your computer or buy a fresh copy of Windows XP.
