I have a Magnavox Digital Video Disc Recorder & Video Cassette Recorder. Model# ZV427MG9 A. When recording from a VHS home movie tape to DVD there is a high pitch squealing sound. When playing the DVD after it has been recorded it has the squealing sound recorded on it. However the VHS home movie does not have this sound on it, therefore the machine is not operating correctly and is at fault. We have cleaned the VHS head with a cleaning tape but this did not solve the problem. I need some help as we are trying to transfer all our home movies from VHS to DVD, it ruins so many DVD's because of the loud squeal being recorded on them.

The version of the ZV427MG9 sold in the U.S. only supports NTSC video files. Thus it won't play a PAL VHS tape.

If you find a similar version sold in Europe, that would probably play PAL videos. However, if you used the tape to DVD dubbing feature, the DVD would still have the PAL format. I'm not even sure that a video capture device with video conversion software on a computer would do what you want to do.

(The video would also matter. If you are trying to convert a commercial video (ex: a movie) to DVD, the dubbing feature doesn't work due to copy protection.)

If you enter them one at a time into your burner program , then click burn to disc it will burn one after the other if enough disc space.

It claims to play -RWs finalized in DVD-VIDEO format, not VR. If a disc is recorded/finalized on a different recorder, not all players can play it. This is the price we pay for the convenience of the digital system.

Unfortuneately a lot of products are not consumer friendly leaving people confused about what to do.

This is normal for the ZV457MG9 units. The Magnavox ZV457MG9 does not have an analog (NTSC) tuner; additionally there is no digital (ATSC or QAM) tuner either. It will only record on line in (L1) which is a composite input (limited to SD). The HDMI port on the recorder is an HDMI out to TV, not an input. The component video jacks are also only outputs.

(If your DVD/VCR recorder had a tuner, it would record off a coaxial (antenna) cable input. Many DVRs can record off the HD connection (HDMI or component); that may be a better option for replacing this Magnavox unit.)

Most Combo Recorders (VHS and DVD) will prevent you from
recording a Copyrighted VHS tape program onto DVD.
Try recording a TV program onto your VHS tape, then
transfer it to your DVD and see if your new DVD recording
will work or not.

Depending on the procedure you may be pressing the record button instead of the D.Dubbing or Dubbing button. When recording from VHS to DVD you must first, load the blank DVD and VHS home movies, then play the VHS movies, then PAUSE the VHS movie when you want to START recording... then the only the you have to do is pressing the D.Dubbing button or the Dubbing button. If your VHS tapes starts to play after the Dubbing button is pressed you have been successful in Dubbing.
