It claims to play -RWs finalized in DVD-VIDEO format, not VR. If a disc is recorded/finalized on a different recorder, not all players can play it. This is the price we pay for the convenience of the digital system.

It's not loading correctly. You need to open the cover (unplug first) and get familiar with the loading mechanism. You can get the tape out by rotating the loading motor wheel.

The version of the ZV427MG9 sold in the U.S. only supports NTSC video files. Thus it won't play a PAL VHS tape. If you find a similar version sold in Europe, that would probably play PAL videos. However, if you used the tape to DVD dubbing feature, the DVD would still have the PAL format. I'm not even sure that a video capture device with video conversion software on a computer would do what you want to do. I wish that I had better news for you. Cindy Wells (The video would also matter. If you are trying to convert a commercial video (ex: a movie) to DVD, the dubbing feature doesn't work due to copy protection.)

If they are +RW discs they cant be finalized and can only be played on +RW compatible players. Use +R, -R or -RW if you need a wider compatibility (DVD-VIDEO). Finalizing is quite easy following directions in the manual.

The VCR portion is connected to yhe TV via yellow-end cable(video) from "video out" to TVs "video in" and red and white-end cables(audio) from "audio out" to TVs "audio in". The DVD plays via HDMI cable from "HDMI out" to TVs HDMI in. S-video cable can be used if no HDMI terminal is available on TV. External tuner in (cable TV, Satellite) is connected to the video and audio in terminals or better yet if S-video out is available on the tuner box.

No, most DVRs do not allow copies to be made to disk, etc.. Some like Dish, do allow you copy to an external hard drive for back up storage and viewing through the DVR. You need to check with the mfg. of your DVR or service provider.

To connect the VCR to the TV use the far right VIDEO OUT, AUDIO (R for RIGHT, L for LEFT) jacks to connect to TVs VIDEO IN (yellow) and AUDIO IN jacks.

S-video out to S-video in will work but you have to manually select the input on the recorder.

I hope you have resolved this by now but in case you haven't: The only thing I can think of is that the disc was not compatible. Make sure to use one of the discs listed in the manual.

if the movie you recorded ? was copy protected. then your dvd prob did not record

I am thinking hard... So any tape (different tape?) it will not play or record for but 17 seconds?
