The image on my hp 1955 monitor ok on start up by swiftly degrades with small thin rectangles (about 12mm long by 2mm high) of single colours mostly red but some blue and green. Qite qickly screen covered and quite unuseable. This started a few days ago in a small way but has increased over the days. What is happening? Can it be sorted? Thanks, James.

Thanks for your suggestion. In fact the problem turned out to the PC's graphics card that had decided to turn up its toes. Graphics card plundered from another PC sorted the problem.

The most common cause of this problem is faulty capacitors(electrolytic and SMD) . Take off the back cover and look for capacitors that are cracked, puffed at the top or leaky. SMDs should be tested using a multimeter with capacitance measurements. If it all sounds too complicated to you, take it to any standard electronics shop that sells components like ICs(like radioshack) and have them test the capacitors and replace them.

Hello, I have a philips 107e61 ,17" crt monitor and it has a problem with the VGA cable. The image appeares and disappeares when I move the jack or the cable. It seems that the wires inside the VGA jack...

Standard VGA (with DDC VESA) pins are H-Sync = 13 and V-Sync = 14. R G B are 1, 2, and 3 respectively. Ground is 5, Red Shield 6, Green Shield 7, Blue Shield 8, 5V 9 (if there is a pin in the connector), Sync Return 10. 4, 11, 12 are ID Bits 2, 0 and 1 respectively, 15 ID Bit 3 (or clock pulse). If your connector does not have anything in 9 and 15, then it is not have DDC VESA.

JVC AV-27870 TV Image Problem

Hi Bruce,
Sounds like you have shorted or open Vertical Filter Capacitors. ( you may also have a bad vertical drive chip now since you've waited to replace the capacitors). You'll need to replace the bad capacitor/s and if the problem doesn't go away, replace the chip also. And as always, check for any cold solder joints ( bad lead connections to the printed circuit board ) as you replace the bad components.
I Hope this has helped.
