My MD-MS702 gave me very good service. Unfortunately it was not used for five to six years and now when i switch it on after full battery charging I get TOC error on all of my recorded discs. SOS, as I am likely to loose all my personal recordings on 500 mini discs Bharat (that too, 79 years old)

    Sir, I feel cheated.
As a Technician myself, I had cleaned the lens myself by applying cleaner on the surface of a blank disc.
Your other advises are for totally laymen.
If I ask another expert, will I have to sell out more money?
    Please reply

Thanx for your frank and prompt reply.
Since right now I am in India for a long time and there are no Sharp service centers here.
I do not know what to do
How do I get some other expert's advise?
    Please let me know.

I tried cleaning the lens with lens cleaner by applying the solution on the surface of a disc.
(I had open the sliding part of the disc to expose the window which faces the lens) (I am a 87 year old technician myself) The wheel on the display shows rotation, so hopefully the motor may be okay.I am going to be in India for quite a long time and there are no Sharp service centers here.
When inserting a disc, the display reads 'TOC READ' The I get 'TOC ERRORa'
The battery is fully charged and the player is not on 'HOLD'
    PLEASE help

    Thnx.
I have almost 100 recorded MDs and the error appears on all that I tried to play. The Sharp India in Mumbai, told me that they do not service or repair MD players/ Recorders.
Is there a possibility that the drive mechanism has developed the problem?
As suggested by you, I am going to be brave and open the unit, to clean the lens, myself. (As mentioned earlier, I too am an electronic repairer by Hobey.) Are MD recorder/players are still available on internet? As I will have to get one to salvage my life collection of music of my choice.
Wish me good luck, in my efforts to repair.

This was a known error in the whole 7xx line. Some had the error after a short while, some lastet a few good years. You can try opening the unit and cleaning the lense using some alchohol on a q-tip, very carafully, you got nothing to lose.

Do you get the TOC Error with all discs? It's probably not economical to repair and I'd say you were hosed.

When you FINISH recording, the Minidisc recorder Writes the TOC (Table of Contents) - so you see it flashing TOC or Update when you finish recording - you need to Leave POWER ON and have the unit on for about 30 seconds for it to finish this. IF you don't, the unit doesn't know where to find the files since there is no TOC. The TOC errors were common with Sharp Minidisc recorders. Perfect discs were ruined. Check out minidisc.org. There are lots of technical postings on this error and how to recover the TOC.

Hope helps.

Hi,

According to you You don't have use your disk play for a huge time, so that it may damaged or lens became dirty.

You can clear the lens with lens cleaner (clear the optical head).

check the battery was properly charged or working.

Check the disk moved properly.

To prevent the disk erase or damage slide the accidental erase prevention tab.

You can show it to the Technician.

    Dear Sir,
First of all, your money is safe and protected. You can take help from any no of experts without paying extra. You have the option to disagree with one's solution and you will be given choice to ask another expert.
After talking to experts(any number of), if you feel your problem is not resolved you can ask for a refund. So, your money is safe and protected. FixYa doesn't cheat anyone.

Coming back to your problem. This was a known error in the whole 7xx line. Some had the error after a short while, some lastet a few good years. You have to take it to Sharp service center. You cannot do anything about it. I'm giving you the technical fact and apologize for not giving a solution that you like.

Ndrive g800r battery charging

Li-ion battery packs in laptops have a circuit board that prevents overcharging. Unfortunately it also keeps count of the number of times the battery pack has been through a charge/discharge cycle and eventhough the batteries maybe still be good; IT keeps batteries from accepting a full charge and and that is why they will not keep a charge for as long as they did when new. Also if any battery in the pack goes bad it effects the whole pack because of the way they are assembled.

Can you repaire sr-70?

To be honest it probably is not cost effictive to repair any but the most expensive MD decks.

I'd suggest you look for a working twin to yours on ebay and buy it.

I spent $350 to get a high end MD deck repaired and the repair only lasted six months. This is even more true with portables.

Watch out for any portable with odd rechargable batteries, there are several legendary protables which cannot be used as the batteries have not been made in years. Replacements if found are overly expensive and probably old, used replacements have little life left in them.

Sharp MD MS 702 shows sound is being recorded but on playback shows blank disc, what could be the problem?

That does not sound good. Being optimistic, though, what happens if you record something and then finalize it? Will it play then?
Will it play a previously recorded MD?

I have a mini disc sharp md - ms702. i have not played it much in the past few years. now when i play a disc it plays then an disc error appears. it like it can't read the disc. if i listen to the unit you...

Unfortunately you've done all that you can. The unit is broken and parts are unavailable, even if they were, portable MD players were always fiddly and labour intensive to repair.

It's not all bad news though: as they're obsolete technology there are millions of perfectly good ones lying around unused and unwanted. Every single bit of minidisc equipment which I own has come from my local FreeCycle and Freegle groups, either as a response to an offer or via a request (but note that all such groups usually insist that you must make an offer before you can post a request, but there's no restriction on replying to offers already made).

My FujiFilm camera (FinePix Z10fd) suddenly stop working. The battery is fine. What could be the problem? The camera doesn't turn on at all.

There could be many causes for this, it's difficult to diagnose a completely dead camera.

The most obvious and common causes would be a battery or charger failure, or damage caused by shock (a fall) or moisture, but it could also be a simple case of a relatively cheap camera designed for a maximum five year lifespan failing a bit earlier than most. Yours will be around 30 to 36 months old now, it shouldn't fail that early but given the law of averages a few will fail prematurely and some will last longer.

Unless it's a battery or charger fault (only way to know is to borrow another charger to see if that works, and then buy a replacement battery as rechargeables don't last forever) then there's really nothing more you can do. Any repairs will exceed the camera value unless you can persuade Fuji to provide a free out of warranty repair.

Note that if you're in the UK you'll also have Sale of Goods Act protection for up to six years (five in Scotland). The Act states that the retailer is obliged to supply goods which are of durable quality considering the price paid and the intended use. If goods fail earlier then the retailer may be liable for either all or part of the cost of repairs/replacement. In my opinion, a £100 camera which has not suffered any falls or liquid spillages and which has been looked after as specified by the manufacturer (e.g. not left in a hot car glovebox last summer) should last longer than three years, but you certainly wouldn't expect it to last six years.Unfortunately, knowing your rights and successfully claiming against the retailer are two different things...

Sharp MD-MS702 Minidisc recorder - no audio from 3.5 mm output jack...

the solution which seems to have worked for most people is to take the unit apart and make sure that the ribbon cables inside the unit are all attached properly.

Sony Net MD Walkman (MZ-N910)

had the same problem a few minutes ago!
removed the battery but it didn't help.
tried with another md, no success
tried the same md in another Mz 910, no success

then it got on my nerves and I gave the MZ n910 a little shock with my hand.

It worked, stopped spinning and started to play.

It was, I think, a spinning problem, md couldn't play properly, the little shock helped.
