Shut down, unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot. If it reboots, open Control Panel, Power Options, Advanced power settings, Change Sleep and Hibernate to Never. Adjust the settings to your preference. Set the Screen Saver time. When your laptop is not in use shut it down and unplug, this will prolong life and a reboot everyday will reset your laptop.

i would say its something with your motherboard

try presing Fn F6,uninstall/reinstall drivers,download the latest software

You first need to try and isolate the problem. Try using a USB keyboard. If you plug a USB keyboard into the laptop and it works with out a problem you need a new keypad. If the USB still is problematic than you may need to do a repair install of windows ( this can be done without changing your files or settings) If that doent solve the problem than its a motherboard issue.

I specialize in repairing these particular compaq units and they all have the most terrible quality just being thrown together, but if someone took the time to inspect everything inside the computer and make sure it was properly connected and organized and functional then there would be no problems. Therefore I get like 3 of these computers a month.

I work with Compaq computers now and usually your problem points to the hard drive. I know Compaq's will stay on that screen if the hard drive has failed. Try another hard drive would be my suggestion.
