Do a maintenance wash. Run the hottest programme WITH detergent but WITHOUT laundry in the machine. This will kill off any molds and bacteria that have taken up residence in your machine. Most of us do most of our laundry at 40 degrees or less, which isn't hot enough to kill all the germs.
Ideally you would use a powder that contains bleaching agents when you do a maintenance wash: it kills the germs more effectively. Washing liquids don't contain bleaching agents (another reason the molds survive), so powder is best to kill off molds etc.
Sometimes it takes a few maintenance washes before the machine starts to smell nice again. In the mean time, perfumed washing liquids can help, as can scented fabric conditioners.
Good luck!
