Need to find someone to repair Garmin iQue 3600

I have a Garmin iQue 3600 and it smells like it may have gotten hot or maybe something inside has burnt. It is 3 years old and Garmin had a contract with Palm to repair the units, but now they no longer repair for Garmin

    I feel my money was a waste as I checked out the site in U.K. and they did not list my model Garmin as one they repair. I also found that site myself from Google. They do have an international telephone number that I could call for tech support, but I was wanting someone I could call and talk to and see if this is the model they repair without blindly sending my unit in and paying $50.00 just to have someone they don't repair that model. So therefore I feel that my satisfaction is is definitely is as unsatisfactory and $19,95 wasted.

    Very disappointed in Garmin. My wife purchased an IQue 3600A in January 2008. The battery never really charged well in the cradle and finally went completely dead. I used it infrequently only when flying. I went to the Garmin WEB for support and was surprised to find that the unit was discontinued and also no longer supported. It's a pretty expensive paperweight. Pretty surprised that Garmin would take this approach. Now I'm looking for someone to check out and repair the unit. The battery was replaced with a new one and also drained. Mike

Sounds like your logic board is broken, the smell must be from some shorted out semiconductors in the charging circuitry. This is the only GPS repair shop i've seen that carries the part in stock.

Hot sync problem for Garmin iQue 3600

If reinstalling on the same computer with your original cd doesnt' work then I suspect that your registry has gotten corrupted somehow.

I'd find another computer and try a totally new install to see if that works. This registry stuff is a headache.
If it works on a different computer then I'd go into the registry and remove all traces of Palm and ique and start all over. Always make a backup of your registry before messing around with it. If the original CD worked before then there's no reason to download newer versions unless you are wanting to solve some other problems.

IQue3600 maps unavailable

You can get City Navigator 2008 CD from your local Garmin dealer. Cost around $100.
It updates via MapSource program and USB connection to IQue 3600.
Do not get "NT" maps as 3600 does not understand "NT" compression

IQue 3600 sim card problem

from Garmin:
Question: Why wont the PC recognise my the SD card in my iQue 3600?
--> Answer: Go to My computer and look for the following directory:

  • C: > Program Files > Palm > (user name) > file called 'sync'

  • Double click on this file and delete the four bottom rows that will look something like this:

"SlotId=0
MediaType=1935960423
DisplayName=SecureDigital (SD) Card
InstallDirName=Slot-SD"

  • Then try a HotSync as normal, it should then 'see' your SD card.

  • If all fails delete a second user name as sometimes this interferes.

Sound as though you shorted something on the main board when you installed the new battery. Just sell the unit for parts on Ebay

Garmin Ique 3600

May be a hardware issue. I had similar behavior when I replaced my IQue 3600's battery. If the circuitboard inside wasn't seated properly on the contacts coming from the battery, the iQue would keep rebooting. Start by checking that all the external screws are snug (but not over-tight). If not, you can try to open the case to check the two screws inside holding the circuit board. But I'll leave that up to you, since I can't honestly guarantee that you're experiencing the same problem. (After all, you seem to be sure that it has something to do with the software...and you may be right.)
