I had the same problem, but was able to use my printer by adding HP OfficeJet V40 instead from the dropdown list. I didn't need to bring in a driver. Try it...it worked for me.
Hello, I had a similar problem with my Canon Mp 600 there were compatibility issues with Vista, I went to Canon's website and downloaded patches and drivers for the all in one to bond with Vista. Perhaps a visit to www.hewlettpackard.com and a sniff on their support and downloads page might glean the necessary files/drivers you require? Good Luck! go to www.hp.com and click on "Support and Drivers". Type in the name of your printer and you can download the drivers onto your new computer so your printer will work.
From what I can see Vista already has the drivers for this printer built in, so if you have installed the Windows XP drivers from CD you may need to remove them first and see how it goes with the standard Vista drivers.
Please note that some functions may not be available as this product is not completely Vista compatible.
Your printer doesn't need drivers( the OfficeJet V40)Vista has it built in!. For instructions to install go here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00808543&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=60630&lang=en
