When you connect the print server to the router, does the lights lit? have you tried to reset the print server (reset button is on the side of the print server). press the reset button for 10 seconds, after 10seconds, while still holding the reset button power cycle the print server (unplug then replug the power cable) then release the reset button. Try to find the print server using the PS admin.
It has been a few months, so you probably have resolved this -- but just in case someone else is looking to find out the IP address on the internal print server of an HP Laserjet 4000n printer so they can set it up on their network, here are the steps to find the IP address on the HP JetDirect internal print server:
1. Have the Ethernet cable plugged in to the router and the JetDirect 600n card and power it on.
2. Make sure display screen on printer says "Ready".
3. Press the Menu button on the printer until you see Information Menu.
4, Press the Item button on the right (+) side until you see Print Configuration page.
5. Press the Select button and a configuration page should print.
One page is the printer's configuration and the other page is the print server configuration page. If you have a good JetDirect card, and good connection to your router, the IP address of the printer, plus its subnet mask and default gateway should be shown on the EIO configuration page.
If the printer has been manually set with a static IP address, subnet mask and default gateway that will not work on your network, you will see the settings will indicate "Configured by" User Specified.
To clear those settings and allow DHCP setting, perform a cold reset on the JetDirect card, by powering off the printer, holding down the green "Go" button and powering it back on until you see "COLD RESET," let go of the green Go button, wait a couple of minutes, then run another configuration page to see the freshly assigned DHCP address of the print server.
suggest plugging print server directly into p.c via blue ethernet cable during setup. Then run setup program and then pick an ip address that works with your router (in same network ip range of router) that does not clash . I would use print server as a switch if it is close to the router by ethernet cable between router and wireless print server. Then both should work
Wireless to server and other wired computers as well .
I have had the same problem. 2 computers had been able to print fine then 1 stopped (other was still fine). I use Network Magic as well- noticed that the IP address for the print server was different on each computer. I deleted the 2 printers on the computer that could not communicate to the server, logged into the server and set its IP address to static at the address listed on the computer that could print. Next ran the set up for the printers on the problem computer again. Test pages now printed out fine.
Before I put this solution in (manually adding the printer step-by-step), I could print a test page just fine, but not anything from Office.
Make sure to follow each step in order. I printed off the test page and held it up to the old one and the only thing I saw different was a field named "Shared". It was blank but who knows. I'm just happy the darn thing is working!
i got my dp-301u to work fine with my hp1020 on 2 different
workstations with the following steps.
1. install printer locally via usb and test. 2. create a second printer as per the dlink manual creating a port. don't worry about the name as we will delete it. 3.
once created go into the properties of the 2nd printer and change the
port to something local - anything will do to free up the port. 4. go into the properties of the printer that was created in step 1. and change the port to that of the print server. 5. test print. should work fine.
Try to upgrade the firmware revision to the last one (1.21). I had similar problem with the dpr-1260 firmware rev 1.00. Now after the firmware upgrade the problem seems solved
seth, did u figure this out since last month? I am looking for the same, a print server that works with the epson 1400. is it too new on the market for any print server to know whether it works?
This print server is a problem child.
Lack of sufficient buffer memory and every ever-so-slight voltage change causes this print server to die.
DLink has NO good print servers as far as I'm concerned.
You should replace the "other" remaining print server as soon as possible, unless you get paid for the onsite call.
I've had experience with this unit. My last experience with it, though, was when I unpinched the unit from between my thumb and forefinger over a garbage can.
